I was on a blood pressure medicine that also contained a diuretic. I don't really need the blood pressure pill any more according to my surgeon. :-) Now that I am not taking that pill I am retaining Water. I drank all 64 ounces of water yesterday and only needed to use the restroom once. I felt as though my fingers looked like hot dogs! Is there an OTC water pill that will help with this?

Diurex (I think they still sell this!).

I was in the same position re-op. My toes looked like sausages and my hands like a bricklayer. The scale went up when I really needed it to go down. Your body will readjust to life without the diuretic, but it takes time and you will be puffy for a while. The good news is you will not be dehydrated. I would caution anyone about taking a diuretic unless prescribed by a doctor. Try to power-through a little longer with the retained Water (your body clearly needs it) and the resultant weight gain (its only water). I promise you will balance out soon. Cheers!

I would be very cautious taking a Water pill after a vsg. We are already at a higher risk of dehydration so I would consult a doctor

This would be a great time to call your doc's office and check it out with them. Taking a diuretic could cause dehydration and that is not a fun thing to deal with. Never hurts to check with the doc. That is their expertise, so why not use them. Hang in there! ;)

I've retained Water ever since my surgery, and I am almost a month out. I'm pretty sure that if I could drop the water, I'd be 10-15 lbs lighter. I can literally SEE it. I drink around 75 oz a day... and pee maybe 2-3 times total. It's dark too. Very strange. I've been afraid to take anything though, and my doctor has no answers for me. I tried drinking less, and I lost some weight, a few lbs, but I bet its because my body had to use the water it is storing.

I had gotten dehydrated last thursday and had an IV Since then I have increased my Fluid intake utilizing G2 gatorade diluted with Water. I get in around 80 oz to 90 ozs and am always going pee. When I go to bed and sleep for 7 hours, I am totally dehydrated again and have a slight HA. I'm not sure what's going on or if my body is still recovering from my dehydration. I've researched the web and can not find any time from for recovery. Has anyone had this experience?

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
