Thinking My Surgeon Has Lost His Mind!

Recommended Posts

Listen to what your body tells you first and foremost. I was eating solid foods 3 weeks out against my doctors initial advice but's that's the way I am. I had a can of diet soda last week and one the week before. It will NOT expand your stomach. I drink small amounts with my meal. I can't get used to not having some liquid with my food. I dropped 41 lbs in 5 weeks. I have a fishing boat and was out fishing in the ocean after 3 weeks reeling in 50lb fish. If it hurts don't do it. My 4 week appointment I told my doctor everything I was doing and he said if it works for you then continue it. He said I was doing as good as he had ever seen a patient. I'm losing weight and not really following any of the advice the nutritionist gave me other than focusing on Protein rich foods and keeping carbs complex and a small part of my diet. This may not work for you but it works for me. 5 weeks out and I'm eating everything I want but in very small portions. That is the point of the surgery. The sleeve does all the work for you. Experiment and go slow. I have never thrown up or had any complications other than spasms if I eat too fast.

I will tell you this, lifting before 6 weeks is a VERY BAD idea. Not only does your stomach need time to heal but the muscle that they cut through does too. I researched this a lot and this is a no no. Nothing good can come from lifting too early and it is not worth the risk.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
