my gall bladder is gone!

Recommended Posts

I had my gall bladder removed 3 days ago. I knew that I had gall stones last year before I had my band surgery. Since I have been having some discomfort in my chest, my lap band surgeon urged me to have my gall bladder removed before I got really sick. He did the gall bladder surgery. I was sick the night after the surgery--nausea and vomiting.:sick I am still sore, but am doing fine. My biggest complaint is that I can't lift my year old twin grandchildren. My surgeon told my husband that he checked on my lapband and it was fine. I will have my one year bandiversary on Aug. 29th. Lately, everyone has been telling me that I look too thin. Can you believe it?

Heyas Girl, Glad to hear you came thru surgery ok, sorry you had to experience it tho. I've managed to hang onto my gallbladder even after having some very severe attacks about 8 years ago. They mentioned taking it out and I was adamant I wasn't going to have surgery. Fortunately, it just stopped being a problem and has been happily doing its job since then.

I can see why people would say you look too thin. They just aren't used to seeing you like you are now. But if you compare yourself to healthy people your age, I'm sure you don't look too thin at all. In fact, I've seen your pics and you look GREAT!

Thanks for the update. Hope you heal quickly. *hugs*

I feel your pain regarding the gall bladder that is. I had mine also removed last week (the old fashion way) since the stone was as big as my gall bladder. Still don't feel like my old self yet but with time I know I will.

Good luck and happy recovery

I hope you have a speedy recovery. I have never had problems with gall bladder, but my mother did and I know she was thrilled to have hers out and be relieved of the pain associated with it.

Thanks for all of the good wishes. I am doing fine. I have to admit that this surgery didn't leave me nearly as sore as the lapband surgery. I am glad that both surgeries are behind me. I miss lifting my beautiful twin grandbabies.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
