Hi everyone. I am four weeks out and I am having a difficult time being disciplined when it comes to Protein, Vitamins, etc. Yesterday I noticed my lips and skin around my mouth were very dry. This morning I woke up with little tiny white blisters all around that area. I have fever blisters but these are different. Just wondering if I may be deficient in something and if anyone else had experienced this?

Hi LeeLeeLosing

You are only 4 weeks out, if your having soft foods, cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese - that will help your Protein intake. I don't know if you are still doing the Protein Shakes? some people continue to use them whenever - so that will help too.

You must take your Vitamins religiously, this is what i do. I have one of those pill containers with the days of the week, am & pm - so i just put the vitamins in there proper slot. Helps me.

As far as lips being really dry, i use to get that when i snored alot. Only comment on that.

Blisters, can't really address that

good luck

I don't know what is causing that, and I am pre-op, so no experience. But I do know that the amino acid L-Lysine helps to heal fever blisters - you can find it with the Vitamins at the grocery. It usually comes in a large tablet, though... so you may need to crush it.

That said, you need to get your Water and Protein, young lady! ;)

Wishing you WELL!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
