I have no problem getting my daily liquids. I just don't care to drink anymore. I generally have to remind myself to drink. Before surgery I was a drinkaholic. I loved fresh brewed iced tea, Water or a soft drink and was always drinking. No longer do I have the desire or thirst. Am I the only person experiencing this?

Yep, I felt that way too...but it does get better. I found that if I used a small cup (I use the bathroom cups 3ounce-5ounces) at a time it helped me a lot. I felt good about one cup at a time. It took me months to get to 64 ounces and just now at 16 months I can get 70 ounces a day. Give it time and take one ounce at a time...

Yeah, I agree with Annette. What I do is take a water bottle with me pretty much everywhere I go and I take small drinks often, even when I am not thirsty. Our goal is not to get thirsty. It will get easier though. Good luck! :)

yeah me too. I still struggle with the fluids. I actually broke one of my docs rules about the straw becuase i seem to suck down much more fluids when i have a tumbler in front of me with a lot of ice and a straw.I figure if he had to decide between dehydration and a straw the straw would win every time!

I HATE drinking, I struggle with this more than anything else. Since surgery I no longer like Water, I used to LOVE water. I carry around a water bottle and always put grape crystal light in it, it helps. (But I still hate drinking)

i just don't get it. I expected foods to lose their luster after surgery and they have. They just don't taste as good as they used to. I guess I was surprised that drinks would be the same. I generally get between 60-80 oz a day and isn't a problem for me. The fact that I have to make myself drink is what surprises me. As others have said, perhaps the taste will return someday.

I'm almost 9 months out and I still have to force myself to drink Water. Pre-surgery, I always drank a ton of Water. At least 120 oz a day without thinking. Now, I get about 80, maybe 100 on days I exercise. Flavored drinks seem to go down easier, but I don't know why this is. Interesting, though.

As far as taste, early out, you body is in ketosis (search the site for ketosis) which causes acetone release in your mouth. This throws the flavor of everything out of whack. But, as you are able to increase your carbs/calories and get out ketosis, flavor does return.

I used and continue to use a straw. For some people, they tend to get more air in their bellies when using a straw. I remove the air in the straw and do not ingest that, so, for me, a straw works better.

I have no desire to drink anything, let alone water! Although I will admit that after a full day at the beach yesterday I was chugging (yes, you read right) my aquafina. Pre-op I carried around a 1 liter of aquafina and refilled it at least twice throughout the day. Now I carry around a 16oz Nestle Pure Life with crystal light and I'm lucky if I empty it once, let alone twice. You're not alone.

I was just talking about this yesterday. I have the hardest time getting in my fluids. I hate the taste of plain Water (more so since the surgery) so I use the sugar free Crystal Lights. Even then if I get one bottle down with a Protein Shake during the day I am doing good. I know I need to drink more but it seems like it takes me forever to drink one bottle I can't imagine how I'm suppose to drink 4 a day.

It seems like work now drinking has become more work than anything because I'm always thinking about when I should be drinking not that I want to just I need to, to get in my daily amout that I'm suppose to.

Plus the whole no drinking 30 min. before and after you eat messes me up because there are times that I will be thirsty but know that I am going to be eating soon so I don't drink then something will come up and I won't be able to eat at that time either.

I am so glad this topic was brought up. I too have one heck of a time getting in my liquids. Its so strange how the taste of Water or crystal light or tea just doesnt sit right with me anymore. And Im often not as thirsty anymore either. The whole thing is strange. I hope that things get better....

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
