Mab 44 Posted April 16, 2012 I had a drain for a day after my surgery on 4/10. They bandaged it up before I left and my doctor told me to remove the bandage and let it breathe yesterday. Today it's a little tender and a teeny bit red/pink around the edges. Is this okay? I am so creeped out by this black hole in my side and so worried that it's going to start leaking green stuff, or a bug is going to crawl in - IDK, I am just thinking the worst. Happy Camper 266 Posted April 16, 2012 I do NOT want to freak you out BUT I had the same hot pink and yellowish symptoms and had an abscess which required a second surgery. PLEASE DO NOT WAIT GO TO THE ER NOW!!!!!! This is not something to mess with. I ended up having a hole in my stomach after they cut out the infected tissue and stayed in hospital 2 additional days. The infection followed my drain line, once they removed the drain 2 weeks after surgery it went into my abdomen and caused this abscess. Please go to the ER now they can treat you, need to make sure no leaks and if they catch it better for you. Please go now.

" Pink/red around the edges is common .... red, hot to the touch and yellow puss coming from it is not good.... but she is not expierencing that per her post. Happy Camper 266 Posted April 16, 2012 Ok, now I see it. You brought up the bad with the yellowish, she did not my error. Gosh I just seriously do not want anyone to have to go through what I did because I did not think it was "bad enough" and I waited, plus I never had a fever which is what we are all told to watch for. Thanks for the clarification.
Mab 44 Posted April 16, 2012 There's no pus - no leaking of any kind. It's just tender to the touch and pink around the edges. It's pretty darn dry and just has crusty blood in it. As a matter of fact, there was very, very little blood on the bandage when we first removed it. I just don't like having a frickin' hole in my side. CREEPY. I go back to the doctor on Wednesday - if anything super red or anything at all starts leaking out of it, I am going to FLY to the ER. However, I tend to overreact so I just wanted to see what you guys said. Meanwhile, my husband, the clown, is coming up with suggestions as to what we can use the hole for - holding pencils, my medicine, Snacks??? That's just gross. What an awful thing to happen on top of having the stress of surgery. I hope you're on the mend now.
