Mita710 8 Posted April 16, 2012 Do you mean pain level after surgery?...well I had surgery this passed wed...I'm not gonna lie my pain level was at about an 8 for about a day and a half...then it went down to about a 6 or 7...now its about about a 3 or 4...this pain is caused by gas that builds up...walking and gas x strips have helped...sometimes while I'm drinking liquids I'm walking back and forth trying to control the gas pain...but I don't regret the surgery...I started my pre op diet 4/7 and had surgery the 11th...I'm down 12 lbs...if you have any other questions please feel free to ask :0)
Doreykn 113 Posted April 16, 2012 I have had several different surgeries & pain levels are different for each & everyone's pain tolerance is different too. I felt this was one of my easier surgeries. I got a script for pain meds on my discharge from the hospital. I had liquid Tylenol #3. Only had to take it for a day or two... Gas was my biggest pain, but once I got that to pass, the rest was a breeze. So make sure you walk a lot!
BlackBerryJuice 349 Posted April 16, 2012 I was also a bit nervous about the pain, but I have a decent pain tolerance otherwise, so I figured I'd suck it up. I actually found the pain pretty manageable! The only time it really bothered me was the first night post-op - it wasn't torturous or anything, but strong enough to prevent me from sleeping. Otherwise, I'd compare it to how your abs are sore a day after a really tough workout - you feel it when you make a sudden movement or sit up on the bed, but otherwise, it's just a bit of an ache. I had my surgery on a Monday and took my last daytime painkiller on that Thursday, I think, mostly just because it was the day that I flew back, and I had 2 pretty long flights. I took my last nighttime painkiller either that same night or Friday night, I don't remember. No more after that.
nixi 38 Posted April 16, 2012 I had a bit of pain immediately post op under my left breast bone. Thats when they realigned my liver but that was calmed with pain meds and as of day 2 i was in no real pain just a bit sore. I took my pain meds for 3 days. The 3rd day was just a precaution. iegal 460 Posted April 16, 2012 So adverse to pain. I filled my pain perscription (liquid) prior to surgery - so ask your surgeon what they recommend for pain management. Honestly - no pain for me. None. Nausea was really bad but no pain. I had VSG as an outpatient so I was home comfortable in my own bed that night. I did take the medication one night since I was not sleeping. I slept a lot that first week. Make a list of what questions to discuss with your surgeon on that all important pre-op appointment. Wishing you the best! No regrets - I love my sleeve! DawnDuke1983 3 Posted April 16, 2012 Ugh see I have had 5 other surgeries in 5 years and heard this will be one the easiest one. I also have a high pain tolerance so I hope this will play n my favor. Thanks to everyone for their support. I can really use it =}

beautifulnewme2012 164 Posted April 16, 2012 Do they give you morphine at any point? I am hoping to talk my surgeon in to giving me something else if that's the case. When I had gall bladder surgery they gave me morphine and it made me sooooo sick. I threw up repeatedly. And that was NOT fun after having just had surgery! nixi 38 Posted April 16, 2012 I Guess every dr. Is different. I wasnt given any morphine. Check with your doctor to see what pain killer he'll prescribe.
Mita710 8 Posted April 16, 2012 Do they give you morphine at any point? I am hoping to talk my surgeon in to giving me something else if that's the case. When I had gall bladder surgery they gave me morphine and it made me sooooo sick. I threw up repeatedly. And that was NOT fun after having just had surgery! I was given a morphine drip after surgery...I would press a button every 10 minutes and it would give me a dose...then they took me off that and gave me 2 percocet tabs every 4 hours...now being home they have me a prescription of oxycodene (1 tab every four hours) for pain...but it all depends on your doctor...if you explain to them your passed experience with morphine maybe they can give you something different for the pain. DawnDuke1983 3 Posted April 17, 2012 I have had the drip but I have always asked for them to take it out as early as they can because I can not stand the feeling of being drugged ={ again thanks to everyone for taking your time to talk with me! I guess I need a shoulder too lean on!
