Don't Know How To Eat !

Recommended Posts

OK. I am almost 3 weeks post-op. I have eaten too much once, don't ever want to do that again. I am still not getting how to eat ! I get hungry quickly because I am not filling up because I am afraid of eating too much !

Can someone help me out please. I have lost 7 lbs since surgery and not a pound more. Obviously I need to eat to lose. I cannot seem to get the carbs under control either. (which could also be why I experience some hunger)

I am still pre-op but read that the 1st phase of south beach is great for sleevers after you can eat solid again. I would think Soup, cottage cheese, applesauce, mashed potatoes, yogurt and sure there are more options til u can eat solid.

I was told to keep my portions at 1/3C so I measure each meal like this. I am 3 mo. out now I can eat a little more but I always start with 1/3C. then I may add a little shredded cheese or sour cream dependin on what Im having. I eat alot of refried or other Beans has Protein and fills me up. Good luck!

I am 7 weeks out and I too love any bean. Refried Beans, green beans, garbonzo beans etc. I too am having to learn how to eat as well. I have lost almost 30lbs but have been stuck at that for 2 weeks. Try BEANS YUMMY!

Yes, learning to eat all over kinda sucks. I too have been eating too fast, now I've been waiting a minute once I stop chewing. As my problem has been pacing myself. Also be sure that your using baby spoon and forks. Being so early in the process it helps to control how much you take in.

Thanks guys so much ! I am going to try the Beans and some other things. I am going to have to measure out 1/3 cup. I also did something a little different today. I usually get hungry about 3 or 4 ish and if I can't eat my entire Breakfast I eat the rest about that time. That worked out so well for me.

You might have hit a stall, it's pretty common around the 3-week mark. Don't be discouraged, just keep up your Protein and once the stall breaks, you'll likely have a big loss.

I used 1-oz plastic cups to measure my meals at a month out. I was to eat 2 oz per meal, so I would have 1 oz of applesauce and 1 oz of cottage cheese, for example - or 1 oz of refried Beans and a string cheese stick.

re learning to eat is hard. I have found that if I eat any carbs in a day then the monster in me comes out and that is all I want. I try to stick with soft cheese, Protein, soft boiled eggs and cottage cheese. I did have a small salad the other day and it was good.

Hey all you guys that are looking to add Protein, . I went online and ordered something called beneprotein. You can get it in individual packets or in a tub. i add it to Soups and other things like juice. I am only in my second week so I am doing liquids. I take a can of cream Soup and some milk and before i mix them together i wisk in 3 packets of protein to the milk. that added 21 grams of protein. I then pour them into ice cube trays and freeze. It is super easy to throw 5 of them in a mug and microwave them and I get extra protein.

Hey shrinkinmama! When u add the protein before u heat it doesn't it change the consistency and make it a little foamy?? I have read protein changes if it's heated above 130 degrees (I believe that was the temp but don't quote me). I tried adding some unflavored to some chick noodle and it made it taste like nothing but foam. It was nasty and I even added it after I heated it but before I blended it. I really want to learn some new ways to get my protein in besides shakes and shots. I would love to hide it in my food. This sounds like a great idea! I'm just starting my 2nd week and I can see I have a lot to learn!

I have been mixing it with broth or milk, just a small amount of liquid and only a little bit at a time. Kind of like when you use flour to thicken stuff when you are cooking. Then what i do is pour the canned stuff in the pan on a lower heat. i then slowly wisk in the broth/protein mixture. I dont let it get super hot, just enough to get it to the Soup consistancy. It seems to stay good then. Are you using a good quality Protein? if not that could cause the clumping issue. I am using Beneprotein.

I was using Designer whey brand. I'm not really sure what's a good brand but I think I'm gonna try to get some of that benefiber. Where do you get it at? And how much is it? I like the idea that you can get it by tub or packet.

I got it on line through Amazon. all you have to do is type in benefiber. you can get a can of it or the individual packs. it was not overly pricy, at least i didnt think it was.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
