Bread Question

Recommended Posts

Wow, 3 weeks out I was still on liquids/purees. I can't even imagine eating a bit of pizza or taking a bite of a sub sandwich. Man, that would have hurt. The stomach is still sooo swollen. I had my first bite of pizza 2 months out and it was awful. Tried again at 4 months and it was OK. Had about half a slice before I was STUFFED.

When I went out to eat that early out, I always ordered Soups. French Onion is a good one, but when that wasn't available, I asked them to blend the Soup to puree, which they did. I would order, then as I "went to the bathroom", I would ask the waitress to have it blended explaining I "just have some stomach issues."

I was sleeved in December and still don't really eat bread or pastries. I substitute everything bread related, even pizza. I realize that you would like to Celebrate with your daughter, but it may be too early out. And, would she really notice? Keep your eyes on the prize.......a new body for your health and family.

I am afraid that if you try and make your daughter's birthday primarily an eating event for yourself, you are going to eat yourself into some major discomfort. I'm a little over 3 weeks out and if I eat more than a few tbsp's at a sitting I am very uncomfortable.

Starting at 3 weeks I can have toasted bread, thin deli meat and cheese so I'm wondering about a Subway Club? Does your sleeve seem to tolerate that bread ok toasted? I'm sure I could only get a few bites in but just wondering about the bread. Also, trying to figure out where to eat for my daughter's birthday that I can eat too at 3 1/2 weeks. Possibly anything Mexican or thin and crispy pizza?

I'm five weeks out and I just attempted toast for the first time today. I was able to eat 1/2 a slice without a problem. I haven't really tried other forms of bread so I can't comment on those.

Whatever I eat believe me it will only be off their plates. I can only eat a few spoons of anything and I'm stuffed. Just trying to plan her day but I think we have it figured out now :-)

Has anyone tried those new thin breads/buns/bagels that are out there? I used to eat those when on WW and two slices equaled one slice of bread. I wonder if toasted that could be an alternative layer down the road.

I used the thin breads to make sandwiches sometime around six months out - one whole round was still too much for me but about half of one sat pretty well. They had to be really soft, though.

I am 21 months out from surgery and I am STILL careful with bread, rice, tortillas and Pasta because none of them sit very well. It's just too unreliable for me to enjoy eating these foods. I can go from happy to feeling pain and discomfort in just one bite.

Everyone's body is different but yes, the idea to just sample small tastes here and there is probably best. I honestly didn't eat a single bite of anything that solid until close to two months out from surgery, though, so I'd take it really small, really slow and really pay attention to your body because you might not have a good experience!

One year out. My surgeon said never eat bread, Pasta, or starches again as they can cause blockage. I believe him as my sister who had the surgery ate bread, blocked her intestines and hatd to have emergency surgery to remove a 1 foot blocked section because of it! best advice. Don't eat it.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
