Dr On My Case-No Punn Intended!

Recommended Posts

I am very down! I had my six month checkup and thought I had done very well. I am 68, could not walk from the bed to the bathroom without struggling. Now I am up to walking at a brisk pace for 30 min without stopping, 5x a week. I was pre-diabetic and now my latest blood tests show glucose at 92 and the rest are all within normal range. Problem is my Dr. took me down because I have only lost 79 lbs. I started at 305. I have had both knees replaced and multiple surgeries (heart stint being one of them)I came home and my old demons said to eat everything in site to deal with this emotional let down (I didn't) I went to bed and slept 12 hours straight, which for me is rare. I get 6-7hrs and don't take a nap. I am still down but back up on my horse today. I am wondering if anyone else is this slow a loser! I know he is prodding me to use this time to lose the most weight but I don't know what else to do. I say "no" to myself constantly! His mantra is eat Protein, protein, protein!!! As always, thanks for listeningI

I think you need to focus on how far you have come instead of listening to your doctor. I personally think some of them are more concerned with their statistics than they are with each patient as a human being and individual. You have made fantastic progress with just being able to walk as far as you can as often as you can. That is GREAT! Plus, you were able to overcome such a downer experience without going straight to food for comfort!

My doctor is the same, he tells me I'm not losing enough and not doing something right. Yet, he refuses to look at my food journals to tell me what I'm doing wrong. He rushes in our appointments and when I leave I feel like a failure. At our first appointment I cried a little because I'd had two days of weakness and near-fainting. I was so weak, I needed my husband to drive me to the appointment. The doctor told me he thought I needed psychiatric and pharmaceutical help. Yeah, from 5 minutes of being scared and crying he diagnosed me as depressed. I went to the psychiatrist and he talked to me for an hour -- said I was absolutely fine and would not prescribe anything for me. Turns out I had really low sodium/potassium/magnesium levels from the clear-liquid diet and that's what was making me feel like crap. Just because he's a good surgeon, doesn't make them good doctors. We're all just mice in a lab to them....

I think you are doing wonderful; especially considering all of your pre-existing conditions. Doctors sometimes forget that we are not cases and statistics, but PEOPLE. Keep up the good work and do your best. Then when you go to bed at night you can have the peace of mind that what he said didn't matter, because you had done all you could. Congrats on your success :0)

Why are you going back to this loser of a doctor? It sounds to my like you are doing great...better than I have done. And I am perfectly happy with my progress. Is he your surgeon, bariatric doc, primary care? Find someone else who can encourage you along to greater success. Life is too short to deal with naysayers like this. Best wishes and tons of encouragement to you, monty. YOU ROCK!! Kathe

Get a new doctor my dear!

What is that.. 13 pounds on average a month?? Are you kidding me - that is fantastic! I believe that most "doctors" strongly suggest that anyone who needs to lose weight should average 1 to 2 pounds a week. You have averaged over 6 months time, about 4 pounds a week... you are on track!

If you ever have a doctor that makes you feel like crap - write your own self a prescription.. for a new one!

You Guys are the best!!! I needed to hear some positive feedback and you have made me feel sooo much better! I guess being a lab rat never entered my mind and now that I have read your posts it makes me think that some Dr.s are like car dealerships-once they sell you the car they don't want to service it. I am so grateful to all of you as my new family.

Monty, I'm only about 3 weeks out and feel like I could only hope to be as successful as you have been. Keep up the amazing job you are doing and find yourself a new doctor!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
