Losing Without Protein Drinks?

Recommended Posts

does anyone drink eas myoplex 42 grams of Protein it tastes pretty good. I like Protein drinks

I drink them too! Mainly on days when the thought of eating makes me suck to my tummy. They are really good...I add things like fruit and ice sometimes for a thicker shake consistency.

I use the 42g EAS Myoplex and I also use the Advantedge 17g ones. All the rest that I have tried vary from ok to nasty. EAS ones are the best ones for me. I tried the strawberry one but I couldnt handle it. I will retry at a later date

I was like you, infact I have never had a Protein drink. Early on tho I did have flavourless powder that I would mix in with Soups.

Otherwise I would have concentrate on Protein sources youghurt, cheese, smoked salmon, pureed chicken/meat etc.

I did loose alot of hair at the 4 month stage, now at almost 7 months post op it is starting tio come back. I have lost over 110 pounds in those 7 months, stalling a bit now but have lost really well, despite not having had protein drinks.

I put Protein Powder into greek youghurt. When you first add it you think it wont mix but just keep on stirring and it comes good. With 100g of yoghurt and 25g of Protein powder I get 35g protein.

I would be very worried that your body will rob your muscles during weight loss rather than fat, without enough Protein. And muscle weighs more than fat so if you are just watching the scale weight loss could be misleading. Be careful.

I am 7 days post op and my nutrionist said it was ok to add extract to my shakes. I love the vanilla extract. It makes all flavors taste better. My friends gave me different flavors as supportive gifts( banana, jamacian rum, strawberry, and orange). It only takes a drop or two. It gives me a variety. I mostly use the vanilla shake powder. Down 13lbs.

I'm having problems with liking the Protein Shakes to I've tried several different kinds but going to keep trying I haven't been able to get all them in I'm 3 weeks post op. My mom is a nurse and she is worried about me not getting enough Protein. She says it could weaken the heart muscle as well as others. Ur heart is one of the biggest muscles.and the most important.

So I would keep trying like me. I don't want a bad heart. I had my surgery to get off my blood pressure medicine and many other reasons. I wish u the best and we should all just keep trying to find tasty easy on the tummy Protein Drinks lol. Lots of luck!

A good way to sneak in a few extra grams of Protein is to mix in some nonfat powdered milk to your pudding, cottage cheese etc.

Losing hair is fine with me since I have enough for three people anyway. I would love for my hair to thin out some! Glad to hear you are doing okay otherwise without shakes.

I am going to the store today with a list of high protein foods. I am going to try to plan my diet to meet my minimum of 60 grams per day. I'm not sure it's possible, but going to get as much as I can.

I know there are varying opinions on Protein Shots, but I am going to get a few of them to try anyway. I think I could handle that small amount just by pretending it's medicine. Going to take it with one of my protein "meals" to help absorption.

Would a person's body choose to burn muscle when so much fat is available? That is something I've been wondering about even before you posted. I would think that muscle would be a last resort when there is little or no fat to burn.

Your body, I think, would rob itself of muscle as it needs the amino acids to burn. That's why it won't use fat. But if you have a nutritionist, ask him or her for sure.

I have enough hair to lose as well, but .... you know my luck would be it'd fall out in areas where I wouldn't prefer. And since I had a leak, I know I need the proteins/amino acids for healing.....

Another possible tip? Protein puddings. I got some from GNC yesterday. Not the best, but they are stomachable!

Good luck!

I have post-op education tomorrow and will be asking about it for sure. I'm afraid to tell her that I am not doing any Protein drinks at all. I'm also going to take a Protein shot with me and ask what she thinks about it.

If I find out that my heart could be endanger without the protein, I will choke it down regardless of how miserable it is. I just never thought I would have to "force feed" myself anything to lose weight. ;) For the first time in my life, I would be happiest if I could just survive on flavored Water.

I'm 12 days out and have yet to have a Protein drink. I don't feel like I can EVER drink one. As soon as I start thinking about it' date=' I feel like vomiting. I have been eating soft Protein sources like cottage cheese and Beans, yet nowhere near the 60-80gm I am supposed to have. I'm not sure I ever got that much in a day, even when I was over eating.

So, I keep reading that it's the protein that makes you burn pounds. I'm worried that without it, I will not lose or lose very slow. Has anyone had success without actually using Protein shakes?[/quote']

Can you try Isopure. It almost tastes lik Gatorade and it has 40 grams of protein

There are protiens out there that don't taste bad :) i would recommend ordering samples and trying different flavors until u find one you like. I really liked the hot cocoa protien powder - it's great to be able to relax with a cup of it!

Where do you get it?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
