Changeable Ticket For The Trip Home?

Recommended Posts

My aunt thinks we should purchase a ticket for the way home, that allows us to change dates in case of of any complications. Although, in theory, it sounds reasonable, I have yet to see anyone to have to change their flight to a later date. That type of return ticket is almost double the cost. I just want to know what all you fine people think!

I have read of a few who have had to, one who was forgotten by the driver and one who had complications. Hopefully they can chime in and let you know what the did. I don't remember who it was though. Ask the airline if you need to change, what do they do, what are the rules?

I did call the airlines, and they suggested buying the more expensive ticket

I think the likelihood of having to stay longer due to complications or driver mess-ups is pretty small. I'd go with the cheaper tickets.

I bought my ticket on priceline and they had some type of protection that you could buy in case you could not make any of your flights (if that was the case your doctor just needs to give you a note) that was only an extra $16 so I paid it and its worth my piece of mind I think.

Yep, I bought mine on Priceline too & paid the extra $16. It covers you if there is a medical complication. I highly doubt anything will happen to me, but better to be safe than sorry.

I looked into Priceline. The ticket is cheaper, but instead of a nonstop flight from Reno to sd, there is an hour layover each way. Not a bug deal to me, plus almost a hundred bucks cheaper. Called mu Aunt, she doesnt want to have to change planes and she doesn't want attention drawn to her by a wheelchair. So I guess we'll stick to our original plan. I respect my Aunt, and she is the elder in the group, so a hundred bucks isnt worth her being uncomdortable :)

I think priceline has seats with nonstop too but they are more expensive like you said. Definitely everyone traveling should be comfortable. Good luck!

Beauty, I didn't see any from where im leaving from! They must be way more expensive than the ones through sw air. Cant justify paying more for the same outcome, lol. Just going to get our tickets thru sw air and get to sd Sunday evening, and be able to get situated before our surgery on Monday. My Aunt's comfort means more to me than a hundred bucks ;) did I mention thay I adore her? Xo

I took a flight with a layover in between and I have to say it was a good decision. I originally did it because of the price difference, but man... being able to get OFF that plane for an hour at the halfway point and walk around, use a real toilet, and buy a hot tea was the best thing I could have done for myself. Just something to think about. I did use the wheelchair service, and i didn't feel pointed out. It was a big golf cart type of thing, not an actual chair. I also paid the $16.00 for the insurance, but didn't need it. I think the chances of needing it are so small, that it is not worth buying the expensive changable ticket. It also should be said that I left a day earlier than most, and flew on day 3 with no real issues.

Caradina, I expressed just that issue to my aunt. But, we have a very short flight (90min) and once we get to the airport she has a three hour drive home, and I only have an hour drive. I will drive her to my house, then she and her daughter will drive the other two hours together. I will probably just get the cheaper flight, and I will schedule my aunt and cousin the adjustable flight all to leave the same day. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
