ChristineS NY 44 Posted April 15, 2012 I will be finished with all of my pre surgery appointments on May 23. So here's my issue....I have three kids, ages 18, 12 and 5. My daughter will be graduating June 22 (party on June 16th) My 12 year old is in track, practice after school with meets being on the weekends. My 5 year old is in pre school from 9 to noon monday through friday with me being the one that does all the driving back and forth, dropping off and picking up. My question is should I wait until their out of school to have the surgery done or should I do it at the end of May? I am wondering if I will be ok by graduation. I don't want her day ruined because I'm not feeling well and have to struggle through the day. I have had 3 c-sections and my pain tolerance is pretty good. I had no complications other than nausea with them. I was up and about with all 3 and even left the hospital early with two of them. I wonder if the sleeve surgery is comparable to c-sections??? Decisions, decisions!! I hate not being able to foresee the future
MeMeMEEE 206 Posted April 15, 2012 I asked the same thing! The pain really isn't anything near a c-section. I think you would be fine at graduation, I went to a wedding day 6 after my sleeve. I took along my Protein Shake. You should be able to drive right off as long as you aren't taking prescription pain meds - I took tylenol at home. I think if you plan for graduation, you should be fine. Don't over do it the few days before. If you go to track meets, you can sit and watch and sit your Water - I would probably sit at the top of the bleechers so you have the rails to lean on, I think it would have bothered me sitting with no support. Hope that helps!
BlueDiamond 1 Posted April 15, 2012 I would say wait until school is out. Pain was not my issue but I was tired. Plus you need to give yourself room for a complication to occur. It may no happen but you have a lot going on and I did too which why I got dehydrated! You need to be able to focus on yourself and I know its hard I too have3 children. I had to recruit my sister and mother to help out. If you can get some help that will be the only way I would plan your surgery before schools out.
Liberated Sleeve 148 Posted April 15, 2012 If you plan for the worst and get the best then that is a bonus! Don't cut yourself short on time.
BlueDiamond 1 Posted April 15, 2012 I guess that's true....in planning you just need to know what you can handle.
cassieh 136 Posted April 16, 2012 I was sleeved on March 29th and I have 2 children, ages 10 & 11. I could not have handled it without the help of my parents. I have had 2 c_ sections and this surgery was totally different than that. Its wasnt the pain from surgery that was bad, it was the discomfort from gas. I could not take my children to school for a week. I just didnt feel good. Everyone is different tho and handles surgery different. I am 17 days postop now and feel great. My opinion is to wait until school is out unless u have someone to help u with the kids. Just my opinion. Good luck.
Mews 37 Posted April 16, 2012 While I don't have kids, I figured I would chime in anyways. I have had serious energy issues since my surgery. Pain wasn't an issue for me but I literally am having problems taking care of myself. Do you have someone that can help you take care of the kids if you want until the summer? At least while they are in school, you will only have them part of the day. However, once school is over than you might be overwhelmed. It's something worth considering.
