Gaining Weight On Pre-Op Diet

Recommended Posts

WTF! I am on the pre-op diet to shrink my liver and have gained a pound. How is this possible when I am not eating crap. Could the fact I have eaten more Protein than I usually would be the issue? I already have low BMI 30, should I stop the pre-op diet? My surgery is Monday.

Im sorry, I know this isnt answering your question but, your bmi is only 30??? Wow! I would love for my bmi to be 30.

But lets see if I can help. I think if you're following your diet, you'll be ok. Don't get discouraged. We all went and go through ups and downs on the scale. Just keep doing what you're doing. You'll be fine.

Yes Vampsy, BMI of 30. I have about 40 pounds to lose. Lose being the main word...not gain. Maybe it is just Water weight.

you shouldn't be thinking about the scale now... just do what you're suppose to do. One pound could be Water weight. It's more important to shirk your liver so it can be out of the way for surgery.

Good advice msoper, I think I will put the scale away. Out of sight out of mind, hopefully.

Just do what the surgeon directed you to do. You will be fine. CONGRATS!

Where are you having your surgery? With only 40 pounds to lose you should be at target pretty quick after surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
