Fast post-op weight loss and then stall

Recommended Posts

I am a month out. First couple weeks the weight was falling off. I lost 31 pounds!!!! I lost a little more during week 3. Granted I was on liquids but when I started soft foods during week 4 the weight came to a scrunching halt!!!:faint: Has this happened to anyone??? I am doing the 64 ounces of liquids, doing my Protein shakes and watching portions. I am walking when I can which is only about twice a week. Maybe the body is adjusting???? Urgh. :Banane27:

Thanks for any hints for a jump-start!!!

Ruthie, I was banded on May 1 and twice I have gone 3-4 weeks with no weight loss. I don't know if my body is just stubborn because of my age or what, but when I do lose, I lose a chunk all at once so in the long run I am still happy because my weight is going down. You have lost a large amount of weight in a short period of time and it would be very unusual (not to mention unhealthy) for anyone to keep losing at that rate. So don't get discouraged! You are doing an awsome job and it will happen for you. If you get stalled for a long time, try to find other things that can encourage you. When I'm not losing weight I take my mesaurements and sometimes that is enough to prove to myself that I am making progress. I have stayed at the same weight but been able to move to smaller clothes and that helps your head as well. Hang in there Girl! You have done an incredible thing by taking this step and you will not be sorry!

Hope

This is actually a very common situation that you will see frequent postings about on these boards. I believe many, many people including myself have very little to no weight loss, or even gain once they have had their surgery and are back on "normal" food. As my doctor stressed to me, the time after my surgery was for healing. The time for losing would come after the first fill. And, he was right. When are you scheduled for your first fill? I think you will see a big difference once you have it.

Ruthie, I am in the same boat. Still on my clear liquid fast, I am expecting the same to happen to me. A great big stall. I think our body will adjust and we will start losing again.

In the meanwhile, we can focus on getting our metabolism up by exercising more. Did I just say that? lol!

Ruthie,

You are watching portions but you aren't explaining what you are eating?

If you want good weight loss you need change your eating choices. We all go through a halt in weight loss. The healthy weight loss is 4-8 lbs. a month. I lost 32 lbs. during my first month too but I totally went to healthy choices and I averaged 10-13 lbs. a month after that. I reached my goal quite quickly but now I am paying for it with hanging skin. I don't know for sure if that is the reason because I heard if a person is 5 or more years obese, you are going to have hanging skin.

I actually drink 72 oz. of Water a day and I keep that count seperate from anything else that I drink for the day.

Maybe you are at a plataeu and your eating habits are good. Give your body a chance to catch up. Don't get disgusted. At least it isn't 31 lbs. you packed on.

I think you've got it...going back to food after all the liquid/mushies weeks means your body has to readjust a little. Don't worry...if you're following all the "rules" then you should be back on track soon. You're doing great!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
