The difference between band sizes?

Recommended Posts

Hey everybody!

I have a question. I was banded by Dr. Sanchez on May 26th of this year. I got the 9.75 size band and it holds 4 cc. My best friend just got banded yesterday by Dr. Sanchez and she was given the band that holds11 cc. Why is that? Whats the difference? I would also like have any information that might help her along...Thanks in advance!!!! I know if there is one place I can go to get the info I need...its here! :clap2: :clap2:

The lap band actually comes in 3 different sizes:

1) 9.75cm - maximum fill volume is 4cc

2) 10cm - maximum fill volume is 4cc

3) 11cm - maximum fill volume is 9cc

The size of the band used is determined by the surgeon during surgery based on the size and thickness of the patient's stomach.

I agree with Tricia. My doctor explained that the size of your internal organs is not a real reflection of your size...some people just have larger organs and so a bigger band is installed. Personally, I had the VG put in. I was told there wasn't a real way to decide which one will work best until they are able to get in there and see for themselves.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
