CrazyCatLady 130 Posted April 13, 2012 I'm having one of those moments of exceptional doubt right now. My surgery is scheduled for April 16th. On April 2nd, I started my pre-op prep diet, which is prescribed as low carbohydrate. I have not had fruit, grains, sodas, juices, sauces, pastas, starchy veggies, coffee, dairy (with exception of ocassional cheese - which is allowed per my MDs outline) since April 2nd. In fact, I have watched others eat them with silent murder in my heart.... And I have not lost even ONE blessed pound. What is going on?!? It's not time for my "monthly visitor", so no bloating, etc. I used to teach bariatric nutrition (ha ha ha, fat nurse teaching bariatric nutrition!), so I am vigilent about those 'hidden' carbs. What is worrying me is - if I'm not losing ANYTHING on low carb now, how is that going to change after surgery? Will I be one of those few unlucky people who go through all the pain and misery, only to lose 50lbs or less? Just so frustrated right now. -Asche, the Crazy Cat Lady
BeautyVGSJourney 99 Posted April 14, 2012 I am sorry to hear about your experience Asche, hang in there! I am sure you know that the stress of the upcoming surgery can trigger and early ovulation and many other changes in your body. If you used to drink a lot of coffee and now don't drink much or any you could be retaining Water, also check your sodium intake. I know that for me when I first significantly cut my caloric intake I either don't loose weight or I gain weight! It's like my body refuses to let go of the fat! That normally stops after a few days. Hang in there and congratulations on your upcoming surgery!
Finding Myself 146 Posted April 14, 2012 I am the same exact way. This is why I am having the surgery! Diets alone do not work for me, so diet and quantity of food is the key - hang in there, the sleeve will work for you! My sister has a doctor whose whole family is obese. Husband and wife had lap band and did well; daughter had lap band and it failed miserably. Revised to the sleeve and did great. Now that doctor is an advocate for the sleeve and really feels "it's the way to go". So we are making a good decision! It's gonna work!
