1 Week Post-Op Results...

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery last friday the 6th. I started my journey at 290, did 8 days of pre-op diet and got down to 277.2 on the day of surgery. Now I'm a week out and down to 269.8. Total of 20.2 since start of pre-op and 7.4 since surgery. Bmi has gone from 37.2 to 34.6. I'm not sure if I would be considered a slow or fast loser, but I'm pretty happy with my results so far. Btw, I am a 26 yr old female, 6'2 & goal weight of 170-175.

This is my fourth day out. I had my surgery on the 10th. Anyway, I was having this horrible headache. I thought maybe it was coffee withdrawals, so I made coffee this morning and blended ice and coffee and splenda, and it is pretty darn good. Nothing else has tasted good at all. Like broth or popsicles or jello...I have mostly been drinking Water, but the coffee actually hit the spot. I am just wondering what you are eating (drinking) now. Did you do Clear Liquids until yesterday? Are you starting on Protein supplements today? What are you doing and how do you feel? Are you tired? Kiki19

I did salads and Protein Shakes for 5 days pre-op then the last 3 days before surgery was just was, juice and a Lil broth and Water. Right After surgery once I was able to drink, I sipped water. Ive drank broth maybe 3x since surgery, had a Lil bit of juice, water, some sf popsicles and thats it. I haven't been hungry at all and nothing sounds good. I start my creamy Soups today and im gonna start my Protein Shots. Ive started a few of my supplements, but a few are big pills that I haven't been able to get down yet. I was a big soda drinker before, but quit the day I started my pre-op diet, had a headache for a few days, but fine now.

Oh, and I feel pretty good. 2 of my incisions are still sore, but thats it. Im a stay at home mom to a 3 yr old, so im able to lay around and rest a lot while im still getting my energy back. I get tired when I walk around Walmart too long, but its just from the lack of cals im getting. I think once I can start eating more I will be fine.

Hi i got sleeved on 04/09 and it wasn't the best experience specially cuz of the gas and the stitchest. I was so possitive about the surgery that I never thought it could take me this long. I can't even focus on my weight when all I want is to be able to be pain free. Any suggestions from you guys who did so well? Btw congratulations you are doing great!!!

The gas pain was horrible for me too, I just tried to walk as much as I could even if I looked like a crippled old lady in the hall. The 1st 2 days I couldn't stand up very straight b/c of my drain and incision pain. I still walked almost every hr or so. I thought the gas pain would never leave, but its pretty much gone at a week out. I just took each day at a time and tried to keep the big picture in mind. You will get better, just give it a few more days. Good luck!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
