Mushy Foods For A Picky Eater...

Recommended Posts

So I'm at the stage of mushy foods, and am finding a hard time finding food I'll eat. Unfortunately, I'm a pretty picky eater and per the list the surgeon gave me, I don't enjoy many of the foods including:

Green Beans

Zucchini

Carrots (cooked)

Sqush

Beets

Yams/Sweet Potatoes

Does anyone have good, healthy ideas for some veggies I would be able to make that allow me to enhance my very DULL diet of mashed potatoes, Soup, and tuna?

Additionally, I don't eat the prtoien shakes, per my dietician, as they make me ill.. so I've been getting my protien via milk...

I'd love any help as I'm very new to WLS, and want to start off right!

I posted some of my favorites earlier today. You can read them here.

Others I enjoy but didn't specifically post -

Cauliflower "mashed potatoes"

Refried Beans

Any Soup that doesn't have solid meat or vegetable matter (you can toss them in the blender)

Wet scrambled eggs, or poached, or very soft boiled

Tofu, tofu noodles, etc.

This topic comes up a few times a day. Search for "mushy" or "mushies" and you should be able to find quite a few recipes.

I am fat girl so do not take offens to this. I used to often wonder how a picky eater becomes over weight. Then I realized how picky my niece was about what she ate but she is a big girl. She only eats sweets all the time. Cake, candy, candy bars, cup cakes, ice cream, and drinks tons of whole milk. I am an all you can eat girl love love love food especially fried foods.

To answer your question: I do not know what to tell you because I love vegetables and salads its just unfortunate I like bad foods to go with it and I eat a lot it seems. Maybe you can try things because I heard your tastes change after surgery. Good luck.

I"m still trying to figure out how to get veggies in so I am interested in what you find out. Getting enough Protein in seems to take all my sleeve space. I did eat alot of refried Beans and other beans as they have pretty good protein with a little cheese n sour cream. I liked a baked potato with chili or sour cream on top or a sweet potato with sugar free Syrup on top.

Well, I often wondered that myself... Then I realized it was my lack of activity and inability to eat correctly... It wasn't sweets that got me, but high volumes of ANY food... For many, many years...

Also, I can't have salads left, but when I'm able to have fresh fruit and raw veggies, I'll be in a much easier place...

No offense taken, ever! :-) thanks for the options so for, guys!

What got me here was eating, eating, eating, and oh eating. Oh I didn't get much exercise either lol. Good luck and I hope you find something that you can eat I know not being satisfied is horrible.

Make some Soup with sweet potatoes and brocolli. Start with Knorr's french onion dry soup mix in the packet, peel and dice a sweet potato or two, when they're kind of soft add the brocolli, cook till its super tender, thicken it with a little flour and Water paste. After it bubbles for a minute or 2 then turn off the heat and throw in chunks of cheddar cheese. Its really good.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
