Never admitted until NOW

Recommended Posts

I have had such a problem in the past really admitting to what has actually caused me to be fat. I have been married almost 11 years and I just told my husband this today. He had no idea. Since I was 19 years old (I'm 27 now) Whenever I'm alone, especially when I would drive to town with out kids or husband, I would binge on food. I would not throw it up, but I would just stuff my face and then hide the wrappers. Hiding the wrappers I have no idea why because my husband met me big and has never been bothered by the fact. (he has a thing for bigger women). He has never told me to not have that extra twinky or slice of pizza. If I'm happy, he's happy. But I still found myself buying two double quarter pounders with cheese, two large orders of french fries, and a large soda and downing in in 20 minutes. If I was on any kind of diet, whatever I didn't eat in front of someone, I didn't count as eating at all. (hmmmmm, wonder why I'm fat??? lol). Anyways, I'm so glad I can put this out in the open, I have never talked about it and certainly never posted it in a public forum. I just figure, if I keep it a secret, I'm obviously not trying to change it. Although, now I'm banded and doing great so far. I feel as if my life is gonna change. I know the band does not change my mental issues with food but after admitting this, I think I have decided to start seeing a counselor about that part. Thanks for listening. What a load off my chest. (about two quarter pounders and a some fries worth!)

Congrats on being honest - with yourself first off, and then with your hubby. It IS good to get those things off your chest and does no good to keep it inside. We ALL have something we aren't proud of or would rather not have done or said....you should be proud of yourself for taking that step to be honest....I bet it feels good!

I think your secret is one of those “Oh! So I’m not the only one” which I thought I was the only one that use to do that. It didn’t happen often but when it did, it was bad. I remember a dozen donuts going by so fast it was scary. I don’t know why we do these things to ourselves. But what’s most important is that you are taking steps to help yourself become healthy and happy. Keep up the good work. Your worth it.

I've been one to hide wrappers, containers, bags...pretty much anything. I would even throw candy wrappers in my recycle bin at work because they would get covered up with paper and disappear from view (another first admission here). Congrats on making the confession - I'm sure you'll inspire a lot of others here to do the same.

Foodstampchamp,

I do exactly the same thing. no one knows. I pray that when I get the band the desire to do this will be managable. I'm doing the preop liquid fast right now, and boy is it a struggle.

Becky, I applaud your honesty. We are all here because we have issues with food and admitting that is the first step to overcoming them.

Good luck on your band journey. You are off to a great start!

Becky, thank you for being so honest. It is not easy admitting even to ourselves what got us to the point we are at now. There used to be times when my daughter would be at a friends for the night and my dh would be rc racing that I would order a pizza and eat chips and dip (my favorites). When I was done, I would gather all the evidence into a trash bag, load it into my car and drive into town to a dumpster to trash it so no one would know how out of control I was. Goodness, how sad is that. I am so glad we have all decided to make a healthier change in our lives.

WOW! The hardest thing to do and the ONLY important thing to do is find out why we needed the lap band to begin with. I personally have never done any of those things however, I do eat alot and usually 3 bigs meals a day....... I have learned in the past 8 weeks(since my banding) that I had a love affair with food for 20 years..... I have let food control me. I have really learned alot about myself to since this journey began.... If we don't strive to fix the inside, the outside will reveal it for us..... Thanks for your post and your honesty. This is a journey.....MAy God help us all to be the best we can be inside and OUT.

Banded June 21, 2006

-40 pounds. NO fill yet.

Thanks for sharing. Most of us have a shameful food habit from the PAST. That's the key...to make these things from our past. Admitting it out loud is the first wonderful step towards your future.

My latest "thing" is that although I openly put my weight on my LBT signature, I've never actually said it out loud but the other day I told my sister where I started and where I am right now. It took a lot of courage.

Becky, you may never know how helpful your courage in posting this has been or will be to others. You are a light to others, and because of your willingness to learn about yourself and help others, you will be successful in your goals. This is a fantastic post, and I'm so glad you were able to write it!

You go girl! You should be proud of yourself for admitting it! I too have had issues with food.. my food shame is I would go to a fast food restaurant and order 2 small sodas to make it look like 2 people were eating all the food I ordered! VERY sad!! You are NOT the only one and I have a feeling that you are going to be successful.. cuz you are doing the first step and being honest with yourself!

I used to order and eat before I went home (occasionally), throw away the receipt, pay cash so no record on the debit card, and throw the wrappers out before I got home. Between that and the late night eating, its no wonder I've been getting fatter and fatter.

Thank you for sharing. It sure helps to admit this stuff out loud.

Wow. How encouraging to read that I am not the only one with food issues. food is my crutch. If I have a bad day, I reward myself with a deliciously fattening meal. If I have a good day, I do the same thing. LOL.

I have been to counseling for many things in my life, sickness, loss, etc. but I have never ever talked to a therapist about my food love affair.

I think after reading this post and with the committment and decision I have made to band, its time to start being honest about it.

Thank you foodstampchamp and everyone else that posted their story and encouragement.

OMG!!! I too have ordered the two soda's so it looked like I wasn't ordering this all for me. Find the nearest gas station to throw my wrappers away so no one would notice. My husband told me today that he had seen a large number of fast food wrappers in my truck on occassion but thought that was the result of me bieng a slob over the course of a few weeks and just forgetting to toss them out. He said he was shocked to learn that it was over the course of 20 minutes! I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one with this problem. I feel more normal now.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
