I Can't Tell If I Am Hungry Anymore

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on Monday afternoon and to put it simply, I can't tell if I am hungry, I can't tell if I am full. I am not sure what to do. I do not want to stretch my pouch but I do two ounces of fluids and nothing feels different, so I just stop. My stomach is almost always making some kind of rumbling feeling now, so I can't tell when I am hungry either. Any suggestions would be wonderful!

Thank you

So glad that you posted this. I was also sleeved on Monday and am experiencing the same thing. In my mind I am hungry or my body knows I should be eating, I hope some of the experienced sleevers can help us out.

Welcome to the land of rediscovering your new body! :) Soon you will be on the loser's bench!

I went through the same thing. The only thing I can recommend is that you plan your meals/liquids out for the day so that you get in the required amounts. You will not feel hungry but you need to make sure you do not get dehydrated and it will take a lot of planning and work to get in the required liquids at this point. Liquids are crucial! They keep you from being constipated and dehydrated so do your best and get them in SLOWLY over the course of a day. Also, if your doc gave you an acid pill & gas pills, take them. A stool softener wouldn't hurt either. Your digestive system just took a big hit and the rumbling is not going to go away any time soon. My sleeve talks to me all the time and I am almost 4 months out. The Constipation was the most uncomfortable experience I had after being sleeved because of a lack of fluids.

Good luck!

Yup, sounds about right.

It was a couple weeks before I could feel full or hunger ... and that was something totally different. As my surgeon told me, "You will not have the same hunger signals, but your body will learn new signals for when it needs food." For me, that was true.

So, do what you're doing. Small amounts. Don't eat (drink) more than a couple ounces. I had to set a reminder alarm because I would forget to eat early on.

You and your body will learn. Don't worry.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

i am 8 days out and am still on liquids.

I just continuiously sip, sip, sip throughout the day. (No more than 4 oz in 15 min tho)

If I dont sip, sip, sip continuiously, I cant get the recomended Protein and liquids in.

Do whatever you have to do to get the liquids in that your Dr. recomended.

I have been told that when we are on solids we will TOTALY be able to tell! :)

So do Protein Drinks count as Protein and liquid? I will never get it all in if I don't count them together.

it sure does! Any and all liquids count at this stage.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
