That's because there aren't a lot of complications, but we have several sleevers here who have had complications. Jasleeve had a leak, stent, and TPN, as did SandyD, MeMeMee, Tiffykins, and a couple of others whose names escape me right now. If you research those names, you'll find their threads.

The complication rate is very low, but you must do your own research to reassure yourself that this is right for you.

I had complications. My stomach twisted after surgery and it prevented me from keeping anything down. The second day in the hospital they put a stent in. It helped a bit but then got worse. I threw up constantly for the first two weeks. I couldn't get any sleep because I would wake up from a dead sleep to throw up. After a trip to the ER in week 2 for dehydration because I couldn't keep anything down including Water, I was readmitted the following day and they took the stent out. Did a complete 180 and was 100% better.

I've had fluctuations with my weight, bouncing back within the same 3 pounds, but no significant weight gain.

I've had complications as well. If you do a search on leak, infection, tpn, picc line, abcess..those keywords should find some info for you.

Lets be honest here, complications CAN and DO occur for SOME, that is a very MINOR few people who have the VSG. EVERY surgical procedure carries SOME risk. Nearly everyone on the planet "knows someone" who "knows someone" that went in for like, say, something simple like a tooth extraction and ended up dead. My own brother nearly died because of complications due to his bunion surgery - the SAME surgery both me and my wife had with ZERO complications and wonderful results. My sister had BAD complications after her gastric bypass surgery, yet me and my brother had none.

Life itself is a risk, especially life as a morbidly obese person. Let's face it, fat or thin, old or young, in or out of shape - we ALL can drop dead tomorrow. Life is a journey and we all end up at the same place - death. Sorry for being morbid but I just want everyone to know THERE IS RISK. There is a risk of staying obese too, with he heart problems, sugar problems, cholesterol problems and myriad other issues. it is however one thing we CAN control. But that control comes at a hard, hard cost, as anyone who has tried dieting alone to lose weight can attest - VERY HARD.

So why not stack the deck so to speak? Why not take advantage of the odds and use a tool like the VSG to CHANGE the outcome of the life of obesity? It carries a risk, but so does staying fat.

No kidding around here, YOU and YOU ALONE should make the informed, educated decision if WLS is for you. Search, investigate and talk to people about it then make your own decision. I did and it has transformed my life. I am thinner, more fit and FAR FAR healthier than I have EVER been my entire life. I'd do it again in a heartbeat - but am thankful I won't have to :)

I don't think anyone here was trying to help her make a decision. She simply asked about info so we told her how to get it. Rootman,,you could be a spokesperson for the VSG..or for any surgery for that matter.lol

I might mention, even though I had complications I'm at the point that I can say I don't have regrets.

I'm not trying to sway anyone either. As of now, I don't have regrets. I know whenever someone asks about my experience at a support group meeting, I can just see the person leading it (usually the program's nutritionist or who I think is the program's liaison) just cringe. Apparently they only want to talk about how the surgery is nothing but rainbows and butterflies. Even though I had a terrible beginning post-op, I'm so much happier after surgery. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
