Pre-Op OK Food Question

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I am on my pre-op diet. Getting banded on August 24th. I am drinking Medifast 3 to 4 times a day with one 200 to 300 calorie meal. I am wondering if meals like Lean Cuisine or Southbeach Diet meals are OK. Sometimes it's a little late when I get home so don't have the zip to cook from scratch. Also coming face to face with the grazing monster. Funny how when you stop a habit it can really let you know what a habit it was. Any opinions about the meals would be great, Thanks :Banane27:

I use these as my emergency backups too. Luckily I don't have problems with eating wraps so I usually have some roast turkey and low fat/low carb wraps on hand to make a quick sandwich on those nights when I have gotten off work late or something else happens. The SouthBeach meals are usually better balanced than the Lean Cuisine meals so I try to stick with them more.

I didn't have to do any pre-op diet but I would think anything thats low in fat you could eat (meaning Protein, not chips lol), and I believe the south beach meals would be okay. What does your doc say?

Supermarkets now cook whole chicken roasters that might be better than the packaged meals (I'm thinking salt intake here). Or how about some lean roast beef or turkey at the deli and a can of low salt veggies to fill you up (fiber) ....... I'm with you on the easy late night meals.

Good luck with the pre-op and the surgery :(

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
