Just my opinion, but I think it depends on the surgeon's technique. My dr said he took most all of the stretchy part of the stomach so there shouldn't be any stretching out.

Correctly done, your sleeve shouldn't stretch. However, it will mature and capacity will increase slightly, but never to the extent of an un-sleeved stomach.

Yes, my surgeon told us at the pre-op seminar that the sleeve absolutely does stretch. But slowly and over years and years. Even when it does stretch, it only goes from holding 3-4oz of food to 3x that, at best 9-12oz of food. In fact, another sleever posted a great image of this a little while back:

http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/31265-sleeve-size-after-surgery-and-4-years-later/page__fromsearch__1

My doctor said it may feel like the stomach stretched in months 2-3 merely because swelling is going down from surgery and the lining is healed. But it's actually becoming the size they want it to be. Remember, a normal stomach can hold up to 60oz!! Which is why that stupid show "Man vs. Food" exists, though it's the most disgusting thing I've ever seen.

I was told that the portion of the stomach that remains is the thickest and therefore very stretch resistant. As others have said, the size will likely increase in the weeks following the surgery due to the swelling going down.

Stretching was the problem with the old "stomach stapling" technique many years ago. They would staple off a portion of the stomach on the opposite side. Over time this thinner area of stomach wall would indeed stretch, sometimes break the staples and reopen the entire stomach.

I think the sleeve is by far the best bariatric treatment out there. There is no stretching, no band erosion, no band slippage, no dumping and no bowel rerouting.

Speaking of "Man vs Food", have you noticed that Adam no longer does the eating challenge? He has someone else do it. Maybe he noticed that he's doubled in size since the series began.

Really? I don't care to watch it more than a few minutes, hadn't noticed the change. Not surprised though, what he was doing must've been so damaging to his body. And he always looked so freaking miserable at the end of those challenges. It literally made me nauseous watching it. Did you ever notice how most of the people cheering him on were young, skinny-ish people? Probably a lot of the same people who write hateful comments on online forums and blogs about Carnie Wilson and other people who struggle with weight. The other thing that kills me is how these restaurants SERVE these "signature" dishes and turn them into contests. Love watching Cooking Channel for recipe ideas, but lately it seems to be more of a bright light on why so many Americans struggle with obesity. It is so different in other countries...portion sizes, quality of ingredients, etc. I went to eat the other night with some friends and on a 5-page menu they called out ONE single item that was "Healthy, under 500 calories" (grilled talapia). Naturally, it's what I got. Waitress says, "What side do you want?" Me, "Grilled vegetables." She says, "It comes with another side, what do you want?" I asked her if I had to get another side and she said yes. I asked my husband what he wanted and he ate the fries! :P

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
