My first fill

Recommended Posts

No wonder I can't tell I got my first fill, 1.5 cc's.

What size band do you have to have gotten that much fill.

I've now got to go back in another week, (2weeks from fill) for

more. I think I need a bunch more.

I have the 9.75 cm band.

yup, that's me. I am a nurse and have delivered babies for 12 years and also worked in cardiovascular O.R, so I know what your uterus , ovaries, all structures near them and I know what you heart looks like inside and out, BUT i know nothing about gastric stuff and a smart nurse admits when she doesn't know it all and that is an area I know F' all, so honestly I know little about the differences. But then again, i didn't understand the liver shrinkage thing either nor did other medical types docs and rns I spoke with, and I ended up eating like a pig three days prior to my surgery and I still was a lap band without the open surgery, so i dunno, but if anyone does I am all ears! thanks all.

Kim, the reason you had to follow a diet prior to surgery was not to reduce the SIZE of your liver, it was to reduce the fat content IN your liver

The Dr. has to move it to get to your stomach, and when you reduce the fat,it makes it lighter and easier for the Dr.to handle it.

Hope this helps you to understand a little better.

Maria:)

It probably does shrink it a bit, also, I'd think... by reducing the fat in it. (?)

Have you ever watched the video of the surgery (online), Kim? It's pretty neat. You can see how they 'hold up' the liver out of the way while they do the surgery.

If you haven't... try this: http://www.or-live.com/BrighamandWomens/1372/

Hopefully that link works. Let me know if it doesn't... there's a different way to get to it.

:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
