Vitamin D Deficiency

Recommended Posts

Okay, I need some help! So I have a Vitamin D deficiency and I have to take supplements once a week...I have severe head-aches & body aches...Do you think that this deficiency is causing this or something else? I will be one year out on June of this year.

I am deficient in Vitamin D also. I had my gallbladder taken out yesterday. Two of the signs of gallbladder failure is high liver functions and low Vitamin D. This could be diagnosed through your primary physician. So, if you haven't had it taken out already, please have a panel done.

Vitamin D is also needed to keep your liver and gallbladder functioning correctly. So if you aren't having problems now, please continue taking your Vitamin D so you won't have any.

You can also get your Vitamin D levels up by spending more time outside soaking up sun, not tanning, but just getting some sun on your skin.

As to the cold, it seems that it is common that many VSG patients experience a change in body temperature after the surgery. I haven't looked into the cause, but many do report it.

Hi, I suffer from severe Vitamin D deficiency as well as other malabsorption problems. Just take the Vitamins prescribed to you. . as far as the headaches, check how much fluids your getting in. . . dehydration causes headaches. . .up your Water intake. . .body aches could just be that, aches. It could also be caused from low Calcium and/or B12 . . .up your calcium and B12 intake a bit. . . your taking your calcium and B12 vitamins right? hope this helps

Thanks everyone! I am only taking Vitamin D..I was never told that I needed any other supplements such as Calcium and B-12....Hmmm! I had tons of lab work done and I was only lacking vitamin D..Everything else checked out normal.

Studies show weight loss surgery often leads to higher rates of broken bones. Take your calcium citrate.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
