Hello! I've just signed up with myfitnesspal and am working on setting up my goals. I'm one month post op. I am aiming for 1000 calories a day, as that seems to be the average amount needed to prevent a stall. Does anyone have any advice on the percentage of calories that should come from Protein, fat, and carbs?

I'm not looking for a crazy low amount of carbs, and I do believe that we need enough healthy fats.

Any recommendations?

I asked my NUT the same question when I was 6 weeks out. Here is part of the email she sent to me.

I would set your calorie level to about 1000 to 1200 calories a day. The carbohydrate content of your diet should be about 45 to 50% of total calories. So that would be about 112 to

125 gm a day. But preferably I would look more closely at a meal or snack.< /p>

I would try to have about 15- 30 gm of carb at a meal and about 15 gm at a snack. Your fat intake should be about 30% of total calories so that should be about 33 to 35 gm a day. Right now I would focus on getting at least 65 gm of Protein a day. Start including some carb and fat at meals and Snacks along with the Protein.< /p>

Oh wow.... 1000-1200? I was sitting below 800, because that is what my surgeon told me... 800 or under, 80g Protein, under 50g carbs... I'm stalled in week 3 though too.. LOL I'm going to try your route!

I was stalled at weeks 2 and 3. At my 3 week check up the surgeon told me I had to eat at least 1000 calories to lose weight. I try to eat right around 1000 a day and the scale started to move. I'm 8 weeks out now and I average about 3 pounds a weeks.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to try it. I've been going nuts thinking that this is just another thing that will fail, because it makes no sense to be eating so little and not losing... LOL hopefully it'll work!

I'm still around 800 calories. My percentages vary, but I try to stay under 70 grams of carbs and over 70 grams of Protein. My fat is a little high I suppose. It's usually around 30 grams unless I eat a lot of cheese.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
