I had my first appointment

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, Just wanted to say thanks for all the great info. I had my first appointment and it went really well, I qualify for surgery, woot woo! I got the paperwork for my pre-op tests, so I guess I'll be doing that in the upcoming weeks.

I was so nervous going into the appointment, but the doc was great, she answered all my questions (I had like 50 of em) and seemed very comfortable doing so.

I still haven't made a concrete decision about which surgery I'm going to have, I'm leaning towards the lapband, but then there's roux en y... I guess my biggest concern is eating around the band, like I LOVE milkshakes, I mean I LOVE them, I could have like 3 a day. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Thanks again!

Hi SuperPeaches,

I had my first appt. just a week ago and am about to start on all the preop tests, too. I also thought you couldn't overeat with the bypass. Wrong. My surgeon says you can overeat and stretch the pouch with it, too.

Actually, people with failed bypass surgery from stretching out their stomas are getting the band now because of the ability to control restriction over time, bypass does not offer this option. On the other habd the band relies soley on restriction where bypass relies on both restriction and malabsorption so usually bypass pts loose weight more quickly, but the total weightloss over time is better for band pts.......so do your research...lots and lots of research and make your own decision.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
