Right after surgery I couldn't stand cold liquid.. Warm or hot stuff would sooth my stomach. Today i am 2 months pre-op and I seem to be craving ice cold drinks all day.. Good thing I get all my liquid in but I am wondering if it's normal?? I even like to semi freeze my Protein and eat/drink it lol

I think you're fine. When starting out, it's not best to have super cold drinks on a healing stomach, but you're far enough out it should be fine. I LOVE cold cold cold drinks, and have been able to drink them fine for a few months now. Never could stand drinking warm Water.

Freezing a Protein drink is a good idea if it helps you get them down easier. I've heard many people, including ones in my local support group at the hospital, say this is what they do. I think you're pretty normal. ;)

My whole first week post op, I chewed on ice. It just felt really good. Ice was my best friend that week. I still prefer the cold stuff.

The day after surgery I was eating ice chips. I can't drink anything warm or hot, except hot coco. I drink everything over ice or frozen. I think you are just fine. Doctor told me "If the cold liquid hurts your tummy don't drink it". So far I have no problems with cold stuff (food or drink).

I used to be blah about really cold drinks, but since my surgery if my beverage isn't ice cold, I can't drink it. It's very weird and odd for me, but I'm guessing it's just what my tummy wants.

That same thing happened to me--I didn't used to care very much either way, but shortly after surgery, I needed tons of ice in everything I drank--I even made slushies with a couple of ounces of juice and lots of chopped ice. It's not as big a craving now, but I still prefer to drink cold vs room temp or cool.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
