Just Got My First Labs Back, What The...?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 11/21/11 and have had virtually no complications at all except my surgeon's vague participation in my follow-up care. I had my first blood work done 2/27 and just got the results TODAY! I called and all but begged for them but only the lab tech was able to do that and she was never available. Now that I have the results I still don't get everything the report says. It's clear that my HDL is too low and I need to get up and exercise. There were some other items on the test that were listed as LOW but nothing indicating if I needed to do something different. According the the report my Iron serum and iron saturation are low. Does that mean I need to up my iron dosage? My manganese, prealbumin, and A/G ratio were also listed as low. My BUN/Creatinine Ratio and Vitamin B-12 were listed as high. Anybody know what these things mean? Do you know of a resource I can use to find out what this means for me? Thanks for your help!

When you say "low" how low? If you can post the numbers of your results we can help you better. If you don't have the actual numbers, call the lab and ask for a copy. HIPPA says that the records are yours. Get them!

You can search each result on the internet, but it's best to get the results and take them to your primary care doctor. I requested that my lab results go both to my surgeon and my PCP.

Just got my 6 month lab all was ok except my B12 and Vitamin D. I don't take Vitamins like I should so I was happy. I try to work a few veggies in with the Protein ever chance I get. Doc said maybe a b12 shot and some sun would be all I needed. My weight loss has been slow this month but I am ok with this. I only have 30 more lbs. to go, should reach that by Christmas.

I always ask for a copy of my labs get sent to me when I'm registering for the blood draw. Easiest time to do it.m all they have to do is click a box. You might want to consider someone else for your follow up.msounds like your doc is just inmitnfornhe high paying surgeries ang not the follow ups.

I have seen this happen over and over again in the forums. Maybe it would be better to get the blood drawn by the PCP where the results come within a few days.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
