I'm Sleeved And Ready To Get To The Next Stage

Recommended Posts

Hi All--

I was sleeved in Buffalo, NY with Dr. Posner on April 3rd.

Surgery went very smoothly and I was home the following evening (the 4th). Had some pain from the 'pumped in gas' from surgery (shoulders and chest) but that subsided more and more the past couple days. They found I had a hiatal hernia and fixed that at the same time as surgery (got a two-fer..lol).

Today I'm kind of wiped out as I had my first post-surgical visit and my drain removed...glad it's out but wow, that was intense for me. Many people have told me it was not a problem for them at all but it was almost passing-out kind of pain for me. I'd recommend taking a lortab before if you're having this done just in case.

Still on liquids for another week, then moving into purees, then softs a week later. Looking forward to some texture...they explained to me that the reason I"ve been hungry is that liquid just moves through quicker than solids (makes sense to me).

Happy to have our group of 'aprils'...nice to know that there are other people in our same shoes out there...we can do this.

Amy

Strange how some people are not the least bit hungry for weeks after surgery and then some of us are ravenous within a couple of days. Makes no sense at all.

I know when I take my omeprozale I don't get that hungry feeling. I am just struggling to get all my liquids in as well as getting all my Protein. I can't wait until I get to pureed foods as I can then do some sloppy scrambled eggs, and cottage cheese mashed potatoes so that I can have other ways to get my protein in by doing something other than Protein Drinks. At first I thought I would have no problems with the drinks, but until the swelling goes down more, they have been really difficult for me. I keep trying, even getting a few more sips before bed, but between them and Water, I just feel full all the time and I don't like that feeling. I get shoulder pain when I am full and I feel sluggish, sort of yucky.

I was sleeved on 4/24 and I started cottage cheese today. Tomorrow will be yogurt and puree foods but I cant eat meat pureed so I will wait that out. Glad to hear your doing okay.

omeprozale is the generic for Prevacid. It helps with the acid in your stomach.

I have been on it since the day of the surgery on the 17th. I have been doing purees and was so freaking excied to start that you would think that i had never eaten in life beore LOL>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
