Scared I Will Gain If I Eat.

Recommended Posts

I am 7 weeks out and I have lost 29 lbs. I feel pretty good. I am trying to transition into solid foods, but I am scared I will stretch my new tool or gain weight. Anyone else feel this way. I feel as if I am reversing my food addiction from all the food to no food. Help!

Common concern, but utterly impossible early out. Check out my earlier post on this topic.

I remember transitioning to new stages was a little scary, but just try to do what your medical team has told you to do, listen to your body and come here, read and share your experience.

It does get better and easier.

I am worried about the same thing! A friend of mine said you will totally feel the pain and overeating like in the past is not going to be an option. I however have trouble believing this since I overate before and have said a billiion times....oh why did I eat so much.

Angela - I feel the same thing. I'm only about 2 weeks post surgery. In two days i start the soft food diet and will remain on that for six more weeks. But even with that transition, just a couple of days away, I keep thinking that as soon as I eat something that is not a clear liquid I will gain weight!

PdxMan - I went to your "earlier post" as you suggested and found it very comforting. I enjoy the wisdom you bring to many of the posts I read - Thanks!

Dee, trust me. 85% of your stomach has been removed. There is no possible way under the sun to eat anywhere near what you did. I used to eat huge meals and now my 125 pound wife can eat double what I can.

I know it can be difficult to wrap your head around, but things are going to change. It was the change I needed to help me change my relationship with food.

You have had 85% of your stomach cutoff. There is no way ou can gain weight with our restrictions right now. If you don't eat, you will put your body in starvation mode, and that is not healhty. I overate like crazy before, and now I am almost 4 months out and can't even eat over 6 oz. at a time. Don't worry about down the road right now. Just take it day by da, and when you feel full, stop eating.

I have honestly eaten 1200-1600 cals per day since 2.5 months out and I am still losing. I think it is to our advantage to not eat too little. My metabolism is still good and I have so much energy!

Metabolism question is it the more you eat the more affective your metabolism is or visa versa I should know this :(??

Lucky Lady, that is kind of a loaded question. It is the more food you eat to fuel your body. If you eat something that will linger around in your system and not be used or broken down, that is bad. So choose foods that do something for your body.

Unless you're in High School coming out of a biology class, I don't know how we would know about metabolism. I sure had to do some research on this. But from what I understand, it is a balance with your body to prevent it from going into a starvation mode, of sorts. It is also not just eating more ... it is also what you are eating and giving your body what it needs. Sure, you can increase your calories with a tub of ice cream, but that is a ton of fat and sugar.

A lot of people try to do low carb, but that can zap your energy, lowering your metabolism. So, you have to find what works for you. Just ensure your carbs are quality carbs coming from vegetables and the like.

If you've been sleeved, your medical team most likely has a nutritionist. Talk to them. They will have a plan for you. Follow it.

I am starting 5 weeks today. I have bad shoulder pain today so I am wondering if I over ate and opened up my stomach. I can eat one egg and maybe 4 Vienna sausages different times of course. I had a few chips and salsa yesterday at th restaurant maybe 5 but chewed them very well. How do I know if I am over eating? I really need to up my calories and Protein so is it okay that I am eating every couple of hours? Mushy foods stage. I have lost 14 since surgery. Past 3 weeks the scale hasn't moved I am a low BMi to start with revision from band to sleeve. I am 148 now and am wondering if I will lose this extra weight and get to my 120 goal. Don't want this surgery to have Been a waste for me...... Help!!!! What I'd you all eat at 5 weeks as such??? Stalls etc?!?!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
