aviiva 140 Posted April 9, 2012 I did not have staples but when they removed the drain it was a weird feeling pressure. it came out fast. how come you had staples. I had foot surgery and when they took out the staples it did not hurt
God's Grace 3 Posted April 9, 2012 I was more nervous about having my staples removed than I was about the surgery! It took less than 5 minutes for the nurse to remove all 36 staples. I did feel it and a few were uncomfortable when she remove them but nothing terrible. In fact when she told me that she was done I was surprised that she had done them all! My plan was to take my pAin meds just before I left for my post-op appointment (my mom was driving) but I ended up forgetting to take them. I did take them when I got home But it was more from being sore from all the activity that day than from the staples. Good luck!
JayhawkJess33 25 Posted April 9, 2012 I didn't have staples from my sleeve surgery but I have had 3 c-sections and had a big row of them for each of those - they aren't bad at all to have removed. They used a removal tool that bends them up on both sides at the same time so its really quick and you don't feel much. As far as the drain removal, I did have a drain for my sleeve surgery and had it removed 1 week postop. It was a completely weird feeling like nothing else I have had. Mine was a little bit uncomfortable but it was done so fast I hardly had time to register the feeling. I have heard others describe it like the drop you get when you ride a roller coaster but it didn't feel quite like that to me. Plus, I was so glad to be rid of the drain after a week, any weird sensation would have been worth it! ha Good luck to you - you will be just fine!
kimmy*custis 276 Posted April 9, 2012 I had no issue with either being removed. The drain just felt weird, not sure how to explain it but no pain. The staples, no pain whatsoever, took her about 5 minutes to take them all out.

SleeveDreamer 383 Posted April 10, 2012 I didn't even know he removed my drain until he held it up and showed me. I never had staples removed. I don't understand how you cold have staples removed if they are in your stomach, unless some may have staples around their drain?
BenisaMartim4 369 Posted April 10, 2012 I was glued with my VSG, but I had staples with my C-Section. They didn't hurt coming out. As far as the drain tube, I lucked out. My doc did not give me one. Sent from my iPad using VST
HealthyMrsG 25 Posted April 10, 2012 Staples removal doesn't hurt at all. They cut them off with a small scissor. In the of the staple. I had staples for c-section
Joiebean 53 Posted April 10, 2012 I didn't have staples, but the drain....whew...that was wierd. I guess it depends on how far the surg. puts it in, but mine was really long and wound around a lot....taking it out sucked. It didn't so much hurt, as everyone else said, but it was a cross between having heart palpatations, wanting to vomit and getting the wind knocked out of me, all at the same time. I say this not to scare you, but I asked my brother how it was and he said it wasn't bad at all (he had a drain for a different surgery) but his was just under the skin...mine was all deep in my stomach. But the good thing is that it only lasts a second. I did go completely pale and got a little woozy, but it passed within a minute or so after it came out.
