I am scheduled for surgery on Tuesday. I'm having it done in Tijuana with Dr. Ortiz I am very nervous because I am 5'7" tall I weigh 170 pounds and my BMI is only 29. Most of my extra weight is all around my middle. I'm terrified of losing too much weight and dying I don't want to get too skinny. Is there anyone who's had the surgery with the seminar BMI as me? If so please let me know what happened with you and your situation. Thanks everyone

I mean no offense, but you really are too low BMI to have this surgery. It will impact every day for the rest of your life, and shouldn't be undertaken unless it is a last resort. Have you tried other things and failed? It just seems extreme to lose only around 30 lbs. Most folks are trying for at least a 70-100 lb loss or more. I'm just curious about your reasons.

I agree I know this is a personal choice and everything of about perspective but to cut out half your stomach for 30lbs is drastic. good luck with your decision

I totally agree. I think 30 lbs is too little weight to loose to do this...but from what i hear, it is not just too loose but to maintain. If u do get it..it will definately help in not gaining more later..and plus if u don't have a lot too loose now, u wont have the saggy skin like people with more too loose.

Please reconsider. This scenario scares me too! You do not need weight loss surgery! I would question the doctor who agreed to do this. The only time I would say someone as small as you should consider the sleeve is in a band to sleeve revision. Please think about this.

I am having my surgery done with Dr. Ortiz next week and what this post did NOT mention was that you previously had been banded in Mexico and it's not working...... That is a HUGE part of the story here and you leaving that out would make other readers question Dr. Ortiz's ethics. Dr. Ortiz deserves better than that as he is an excellent surgeon... one of the BEST! When asking for advice on the forum please make sure you tell the whole story......

If Dr. Ortiz agreed to perform your revision surgery I would not worry.. You are in good hands!

Ah ok, I'll calm down then. :) Like I said, band to sleeve makes sense... randomly having sleeve for a 30 lb loss.... NO! I'll go mother hen elsewhere... LOL

I agree 1000000% with you Caradina... When I first read the post I was like WOAH!!! I couldn't believe that Dr. Ortiz would perform a sleeve for only a 30lb weight loss.. Once I clicked on the posters profile I saw her other postings which mention that she had a band operation prior.... then I was like.... WELLLLLLL.... that explains it!

I'm a mother hen too.... your comments are always welcome as far as I'm concerned!!! :)

All the best!

Em

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
