Newbie That Is Over It!

Recommended Posts

Hello! I'm new here. I have had type 2 diabetes for almost 10 years. Currently I'm about 60lbs over weight. My current BMI is around 32. I take about 11 meds a day including lantus and novolog (just started that one last week), I have super high triglycerides and cholesterol. I never seem to be able to stick to a eating plan for more than 2 weeks! I so out of shape walking up stairs almost kills me.

I just want to feel good! I'm 44 years old and I'm a mess. I have looked around on the lap band forum, but after looking on this forum and seeing all the folks who have lapband now switching to a sleeve, I don't think not that I want the band. My insurance won't cover unless I have a BMI of at least 35, but with now taking novolog, I'm guessing it won't be long before my BMI shoots up.

I'm mad at myself for ever getting in this shape! I feel like a failure for not being able to stick with a diet and exercise. Not sure if the sleeve would wake me up and force me to do right or not. I just know I'm sick of being sick and I need something to make me behavior.

Did any of you gain weight when taking insulins like novolog? Do any of you have a diabetes story similar to mine? Did this surgery help you to get it together? What was your turning point?

I need some support and ideas to help me make an informed choice.

Thanks,

donewithdiabetes!

I am in similar circumstances as you. A little older but have started the process of getting the insurance company to contribute. My insurance is Aetna and I need to be at their mercy for 90 days to do the nutrition classes. Stay in touch.

I'm 41 and I've had diabetes for well over 10 yrs. I am diet control and had been successfully until the beginning of this year where I went up in weight eating everything in sight and of course my A1C went up to 8.9 that is when my dr. put me on metformin and glipizide and the medication made me so sick. I took it and I was in bed with nausea, and when it wasn't coming from one end it was coming out the other. My blood sugars dropped so low I thought I was going to pass out. I couldn't drive, eat or anything. I called my PHP and asked to see the endo dr. I was lucky I got in the next day. She changed the medications with no luck. At that point I asked to see a dietitian and she suggested I try the 1200 preop diet. I did it for almost 3 months, combined with 1 hr. exercise ( never exercised before) I was able to get my A1C to 6.5 with no medications... But then it dawned on me......... I am doing so well but I am still diabetic with a BMI of 36 and weighing 184 lbs. and that is when I decided I would continue with the WLS. I am hoping it helps me put an end to this. I am so tired of this.

BTW. I had started the process for WLS when my blood work came back really high.

I have my 2nd. appointment with the surgeon on August 17th. I am hoping I get my surgery date then.

HI, I am also new to this forum. I'm 57 and about 150 pounds overweight. My WLS (sleeve) is in 5 days. I am Type 2 diabetic for 15 years, currrently on 1000 metformin twice a day, bayetta twice a day and 18 units of Lantus at night. Lisinopril 40 mg/day. Last A1C was 8. Preop diet has reduced my daily BS to between 108 and 140 which is great for me. Endocrinologist thinks I will be off all meds when I leave the hospital. We'll see. Getting nervous. Love to read the advice on the forum. Good luck with your journey.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
