There's another thread on this that came up about 10 mins ago. Read here for more input.

Its a completely individual thing. Some people return to work in less than a week. Others take several weeks.

A week is not going to be enough time. You are going to go thru a period where you are very weak and tired after surgery. It is better to take a little extra time off rather than go back to work early, do a poor job and have that reflect poorly on your work history. Don;t rush it.

If you are eligible for it, talk to your HR about doing FMLA. Also, do you have short-term disability benefits? I recommend at least 2 weeks minimum....

I took one week off. During my week off my daughter was sleeved and had to stay in the hosp for 5 days. So I was on the run all week with her. Hosp was 45 min away. I went back to work after 1 week off. I am a nurse manager at a long term care facility alot of my job is paperwork however I ended up making Dr rounds 2 days in a row which had me up on my feet and it really kicked me felt like someone sucker punched me. Take at least 2 weeks off remember you do have a couple hundred staples inside you

I have 6 weeks off, due to lifting restrictions. I am a floor nurse, and employer says must be free from any restriction , or at least 40 lbs before returning, which is 6 weeks.

My dr gave me 6 wks off. My job requires a lot of lifting so I might take the whole 6 weeks. Any way I would love the time off to rest and relax.

No lifting at my job....at my desk, on the computer or meeting with people most of the day. Dr. has said 2 weeks although my post op appt with him is 2 weeks and 2 days after surgery so I'm not sure if I wait until after that appt to be cleared or if I can automatically just go back after the two weeks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
