F'ing Hormones >:(

Recommended Posts

My skin has been clear for like 18 years. I'm now 2 weeks post-op and in the last few days have sprouted 11 pimples on my chin, precisely where I would expect to see breakouts related to hormones (sides of the chin). I wake up to 2 or 3 more every day.

I know it will get better as the shock to my body lessens and my hormones find equilibrium, but who knows how long that will take. As if I didn't have enough things to be self conscious about.

I go back to work in about 2 weeks. I have to interact with a lot of people, and there's squat I can do about this other than wait it out.

Just venting a bit. I'll gladly take some pimples over the 40ish pounds I've lost so far, but dayum... this still bites.

I agree, the hormone element of this is a nightmare... but it will get better, and as you've stated it is just a matter of time. Can you use any make up to make you feel less aware of them?

Girl, I feel you! I'm 8 months out and I break out and my pms seems way more severe than it used to be.

Does anyone know when this hormone thing is supposed to even out?

Wow, my skin has been great since surgery but I've always been really regular and still am. I figured my skin cleared up because I wasn't dumping a bunch of junk food into it any more... my hormone issues have been more of the sex-on-the-brain type!

My skin broke out badly a few Weeks post op. I called my doctor and she write me a script for generic BenzaClin gel. I've used it before, and it worked this time just like it had in the past. I highly recommend it!

The 11 pimples turned into more like 17 since my last post. Big puffy red ones, that overnight turned into small and medium sized whiteheads. I know enough to leave them alone, just cleanse as normal (over-treating can cause dryness, which can exacerbate breakouts) and this morning there was a huge improvement. Hopefully it'll just get better from here.

Cream cleaner in the shower every morning, about 15 warm Water splashes and some 100% witch hazel on a cotton ball at night have done me well for years & years & years. I'm trying hard not to cheat on them. :)

(Good tip, for me personally my skin is too sensitive for benzoyl products, they dry me terribly to the point where I get scaly and almost look burned, but it's a good tip for people who can tolerate benzoyl products)

After reading this it helps me understand why since surgery I always have several pimples on my chin. I've never had pimples. Makes since with the hormone changes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
