Should I Or Shouldn't I

Recommended Posts

I am very tempted to eat a spoonful of Mashed Potatoes today, but want to know if this will hurt my sleeve. I am following up with the doctor in 2 days ( 11 days Post Op) and until then I was told to just be on Full liquids. I am very hungry and the Protein Shakes don't sit well with me at all. I am really struggling to get at least 40 grams Protein and Water in. Would it hurt to just have one bite????

I am almost 8 weeks out and I can't eat potatoes too hard on my belly. They are just too filling.

If your struggling to get in your Protein, then the last thing you should be worried about is eating a carb. Eat a Greek yogurt instead.

I was able to eat a couple spoonful of mashed potatoes mixed with chicken broth to make them softer. I was five days post-op & my doc okay'd it right away. Just take one baby bite and wait a couple minutes to see how it goes down.

I'll be 2 weeks out Tuesday. I've not tried mashed potatoes, but last night I did have a small amount of strained, low fat clam chowder with 4 - 5 of the potato pieces. It was canned, so the potatoes were mushy.

I made some fish chowder today and had a few tbls of the broth, but no potatoes. The broth was too filling.

I've been OKed on soft foods like mashed potatoes since day 4, I just can't do much of them since I struggle with enough capacity for protein/water.

Mashed potatoes are commonly on the early mushie diet list (it was on my doc's first month list) as they are usally well tolerated and easy to digest. Some unflavored Protein Powder can be mixed into them to help with your Protein levels, and as ashleyirene noted, they can be made or mixed with chicken (or beef) broth to moisten them as needed and alter their flavor. Don't worry about the carbs at this early point (or ever, if you are so inclined,) unless your doc is on the low carb bandwagon or you have found that program to be useful for you. While potatoes aren't something that is usually recommended during the prime weight loss period when you should be having more meats, cheeses, yogurts and other protein rich foods, they are a good source of potassium which we have a hard time getting enough for our needs.

I ate a bite of mashed potatoes early on--it was the first "real food" that would stay down! DON'T eat more than that, though--just a tiny bite and let it go down and stay down. It's tempting to try more at the beginning, but you won't like the results. :-)

Also second the whole "try yogurt" thing. I could never get my Protein in, either, and in fact, still don't make the required amounts (and I'm almost a year out)--do what you can do as you can do it. Best wishes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
