Does Anyone Have Any Regrets?

Recommended Posts

I don't feel exactly the same way as everyone else. I am only 2 weeks out after having surgery on March 26th. I am still getting used to the idea that I will never be able to go back to the way I used to be (with food). I am not sure if thats regret because the way things used to be wasn't healthy! I never imagined I would have such a feeling of loss just because I couldn't eat. I'm definitely still mourning food, but at the same time I know this was a good decision. I just turned 31 on Friday and I know that if I continued the way I was I would start to have health problems. So, ultimately, I would tell you that if you are scheduled for surgery, there is a reason for that. Think about the outcome and why you started this journey in the first place...it will get easier everyday.

I'm 31 also. i am having some feelings of missing food also. I am praying that once I get further out I can eat what I want in a much more healthier way, i am 2 weeks out and its hard. But what's harder is that when I started this journey, I was 440lbs. I had just finished nursing school. I struggle up stairs, have a hard time fitting in chairs and I can;t find clothes that fit! I was so scared that I would not be hired for a nursing job due to my size!!!!! So food can go, being a healthier me can stay!

I don't have regrets now 41 days out, but the ugliness of it at first, missing the food and having the family eating while I drank 1oz cups of ensure, was crazy to me, but seeing the results and pushing through the emotional roller coaster, helped get me on track and knowing I did this self pay, for healthier me, a participating parent and a better wife! It gets better...support group is great to know you are not alone! I didn't have any crazy issues or sickness, no vomiting, just head hunger and my mouth missing the food, but I don't! Stick with it! If it was an easy process, everyone would be healthy, right?

No need to mourn, you will be able to eat again! :)

Marisa rose....it will get easier for you too....I promise!!! I can remember, at about two weeks out, mourning food so badly!! I just wanted to chew and the thought of not being able to eat the way I wanted to just pissed me off. Fast forward almost 5 months and I am so happy with my decision. My relationship with food has changed dramatically....it's just not an important part of my life anymore and I find myself eating to live rather than living to eat. I still have moments where I find myself snacking mindlessly....but that's something I'm working really hard to change, or at least, minimize!!

And as far as regrets go....it's the same regret as the others....wish I could have done it sooner!!!

I am 50, with all the comorbidities...hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol, apnea, heart and renal failure. I nearly died in May 2011 after my kidneys failed. I just had my surgery on March 21 and am down 42 lbs already. I no longer need insulin or my oral diabetic meds, have cut my BP meds in half, stopped taking lasix. It appears that after 10 years of being diabetic, its in remission. Oh yeah, and my kidneys are fine!

I'm 4 days post op. I too was sad but I have 3 family members who have done it and they eat whatever they want just small portion. Of course when's it's unhealthy food once a week. My uncle eats one slice of pizza half of that cuz he can't fit anymore. He stays satisfied. So don't be sad I was sad too thinking omg never again am I going to be able to eat pizza or Pasta. But you will be able to just small portion.

I wish I would have known about it sooner and done it sooner! Don't think of it as a diet and not being able to eat. It is a change in eating habits, and you will be able to eat, but just not gorge like you may have done before. But you will need to go through the stages and work to eating regular foods again. I am almost 4 months out and my sleeve will tolerate any food. I don't crave things like I did before, and I don't have a taste for alot of things I lived before, but I don't miss them because I love feeling good each day about myself, and love seeing my pants literally fall off, so it makes it all worthwhile!

Like many of the others I wish I could have had it sooner. Its the best thing I have ever done for myself. A magic bullet it isn't but it is a great tool.

Ur gonna go thru stages of stalls.. that arent really stalls.. its just your bodies way of adjusting to the weightloss.. just keep up with your exercise and your Fluid intake you will kick the semi-stall in no time.. don't let it get you down, cuz u will eventually start losing again!

I wish I could have foreseen the amount of mental and emotional energy that this lifestyle change requires!!! I really didn't know how much emotional engagement was necessary to navigate my journey!

Other than that, I don't regret a thing!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
