Amanda 3.0 140 Posted April 8, 2012 I take levothyroxine/synthroid for low thyroid daily. I just wanted to let people know that as you lose weight, you may need to see your doctor to adjust your dosage. I was taking 100mcg of levothyroxine daily, but after surgery and losing over 50 pounds (within 20 pounds of goal), my last blood test came back showing that I was maybe my dose was too high. Fortunately, my family doctor told me the symptoms to watch for, the main one being heart palpitations. Sure enough, in a few days, I developed heart palpitations, sweating, insomnia, and other symptoms of too high a dose. I was cut back to 88mcg of Synthroid, and after three days, I have no more palpitations. The palpitations were scary and I was exhausted. Unfortunately, after this procedure we are going through so many changes that it is not easy to pinpoint the cause of problems like this. I thought I might be low on potassium, which will also cause palpitations. I logged my potassium though, and found it to be good. Other people taking thyroid meds might want to be careful and watch for symptoms of too high a dosage of meds.
