Feeling Sadness/down After Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've been reading quite a bit lately about feeling depressed/down after surgery due to the estrogen being released in your body as the fat burns. I also assume that it's also due to the fact that your body just went through a major change and temporary feelings of depression are normal after such an ordeal. I am worried about this, as I have a history of depression on and off for the past 12 years. After the birth of my second daughter. Is this a temporary feeling of sadness or do you feel like this as long as you have fat to burn?

I am 9 days post op and I felt so depressed the first week. It was horrible. I even regretted having the surgery. I also have a history of depression, so I was worried too. But I must admit that I am feeling much better now. It got better each day and is still getting better. My main issue was that I just missed food and felt so hungry. I have a terrible food addiction so I have had to really face that. Not all people go through this so you may not either.

I was depressed for a short time. It went away. But if you worry let your Dr. know so if you need any med. he can help.

Don't worry, sadness is NORMAL. I spent almost all day crying and feeling sad yesterday. Today is better. I spent a few hours with my best friends today and I thi k just being out of the house helped snap me out of the sad feelings. I have struggled with depression in the past (and am still taking meds for it) and I know that if you are truely depressed getting out of the hour will not "snap you out of it". Talk to your doctor if the sadness lasts more than 2 weeks. Your body just went through a HUGE surgery. I am 10 days post op and k ow that more sad days will come. Hang in there!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
