200 Pounds To Lose Is Doable

Recommended Posts

387 Nov 2011, 367 at beginning of PreOp April 25, 349 morning of surgery May 21, 328 today (3 weeks out). Doc set a goal of reaching 150. I don't really have a number in my head, because I don't know what I would look like at those weights, 150 seems too small, 180 is a more comfortable number in my head..lol. Thinking of the overall goal of losing 200+ is totally too overwhelming. I just focus on 10lbs at a time, its a nice reset for my brain instead of thinking only 178ish lbs to go.

Best wishes on a quick approval and future success!!

I also have 200+ lbs to lose. I am scheduled for my EGD next week and then will hopefully be able to schedule my surgery. I am ready to have a life and not just trying to make it day by day. I"m so tired of being tired . This site has been very helpful in providing information and cementing the fact that this is a lifestyle change. I have a lot of support from my family. I'm self pay so my greatest fear is complications. I hope that every thing goes good for you and that you get that approval letter soon.

I started at 352 and I've lost over 100 pounds in 9 months. For the first six months or so, I dropped weight like it was a bad habit, and now the loss has slowed down. But, my loss slowed down in correlation to my increasing exercise... and I'm dropping sizes now like a bad habit. :) I'll lose a few pounds, then lose a size. I'll take it. :)

There's no way I'd have believed I'd be 100 pounds lighter in 9 months pre-op, but you will probably lose faster even than I did. Enjoy the journey! :)

I know I can do it but right now I feel like I'm failing. Mostly because I don't have a scale and don't track what I eat daily. I have had a lot going on and have not planned well. Hopefully I will get back on track and lose more weight by my birthday. The more I get on VST, the better I feel and the more I lose. I guess I need to make more time for my great support system!!!

Missmarbe, I feel the same way you do! VST is one of the biggest links in my success. I always feel inspired again after I've come here!

You're doing great. Just keep on doing what you know you're supposed to do! You will get to your goal.. 51 pounds lost already is GREAT!! (I feel like Tony the Tiger now!) :)

You don't need a scale at home! Unless it's to weigh your food. :) The scale is an ugly, harsh, lying little wench, IMO. I can weigh up to 5 pounds different depending on how I stand on my scale. :)

I was just thinking if I get a scale and see the weight going down, that would be ny motivation. I get what you are saying though. When it doesn't move, I'll be disappointed and throw it out the window !!! Lol

That was my point, MissMarbe. I hate when the darn scale doesn't move!! I have it in my signature line, I'm an NSV 'ho! That's because I know that how I feel, how my clothes fit, and my fitness ability are way more important than that scale. I've had it sit on the same number for weeks while I've lost 2 inches from my waist. That tells me that the scale is a filthy little liar! :)

Good for you! Welcome to the losers' bench! My height hasn't really been an issue in all of this except for finding a "goal weight," which was sort of a challenge for my dietician, I think--she suggested that perhaps 212 would be a good goal; it was a good goal, I guess, since I was starting at well over 300 and that would have been a good chunk of my excess weight, BUT it would have left me in the "overweight" category for BMI. Also, I remember being 190 in graduate school, and I wore size 16 then (strange how vanity sizing has adjusted to my now weighing 182 and wearing size 12), so I knew 190 would be a good goal. Now I'm thinking maybe I will eventually drift down to my "secret" goal of 170, which seemed impossible before but now is getting closer and closer. My point is that at our height, "goal weight" is sort of a tricky thing. I feel so much better and look so much better--anything else I lose is just icing on the cake. If it happens, great; if not, I can live the rest of my life VERY comfortably right here. Thank goodness for my sleeve!!!!

Anyway, best wishes to you--keep us posted on your progress and feel free to PM if you have any "tall girl" specific questions! HUGS!!

Yes this can be done. I nstarted my journey the latter part of December of 2010. I weighed in at 489 pounds. I had my surgery on August 16th and weighed in at 404 pounds. I am currently at 263 pounds. So thats 226 pounds in around a year and a half. If I can do it anyone can. One day at a time, one meal at a time. Good luck!

Respectfully,

Joe

I had my VGS on 4/30/12. I started out at 352 and I am now down to 270! A big 82lbs! My goal is between 150 or 160. Now I have stalled out. I too want to toss the scale out the window! Its good to read everyones stories and know it will pass as long as I stick with it. Good luck to all.

Lewanda, I am 6 Foot 4 and i started out at 540 pounds. i got down to 490 pounds on the day of surgery. I am 10 months out and weigh 338 pounds. i have about 60 more pounds to go. Losing the 200 pounds is definitely possible, i have lost just over 200 myself. Now loosing 100 pounds in 4 weeks is drastic and probably not healthy, but the larger you are the more you lose initially. my first 2 months i lost around 55 pounds. i do have loose skin and will probably need to have surgery to remove the extra skin. But im only 24 so i will wait at least 1 year to give my skin some time to retract before i have surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
