For Older-Aged Sleevers: Do You Look Older Now?

Recommended Posts

I've noticed a lot of older-aged people who have been through WLS, may tend to look older. I'm already showing the signs of age at 55. I hope I don't look 65 when I'm done with this process. Thoughts? Comments? Thank you!

I'm 55 too. I do have more wrinkles and saggy skin, but I feel I look younger without the extra weight on me. My face and body are youthfully thin. I only have one chin. I do have wrinkly skin under it though. My tummy, upper thighs, butt, and upper arms have lose skin. Some I'm sure is just being 55, but some comes from losing more than 100 lbs. I hope it springs back a bit, but I've got about another 11 months or so before I can evaluate how much shrinkage to expect.

See if you think I look older or younger in my before and (almost) after pics. I need to add a couple now that I am at goal weight.

I'm 58 and I'm a little more than three-months out. Personally, I think the weight was making me look really old and pre-op, I had no energy.

The only thing I've noticed was that my skin was looking kind of dull so I've stepped up defoliation. But I'm not so sure it wasn't looking dull anyway.

As far as wrinkles, they are about the same at this point. They might show more when I get more weight off.

I'm happy to be starting to see my cheekbones again!!

I was 56 when I had my surgery last Dec and will be 57 this Nov. I do not think that I look older but then I was not having surgery to look younger. I was having surgery to prolong and improve the quality of my life. I certainly do not think that I look any older and people have told me that I am looking good and younger. I think it has a lot to do with the type of skin you have and how much sun damage you have accumulated up to this point of your life. Embrace yourself for who you are. Who knows maybe the next thing will be a facelift in Mexico.

You ALL look great! A friend if mine mentioned the subject and she got me thinking about it. That is why i asked. I think a positive attitude can make a person look younger too! Im going to work on that!

I'm 51 and most think I look younger, I too have a LOT mores sag and wrinkles but overall look more youthful. Perhaps less haggard without strugglinh with the excess weight?

egads - i am 58 and i never thought of this possible problem. of looking older. I have to admit i have a few wrinkles here and there,, but i can see how losing a lot of weight could make you look "saggy" etc.

But the more important issue, we might look alittle older, but we feel alot younger.

I'm 48 and just had surgery a week ago so don't know what I will look like yet. I lost 52 pounds pre-op and that's made no difference. I am most afraid of turkey neck and have been doing exercises to prevent it twice a day for months. Not sure if it will do any good or not, but it's easy to do so worth a try.

@Cherrybomb: what are the exercises? I might have to start doing them to help prevent my turkey neck!

Ssilian..If you do a resistance excercise, they make a contraption..they sell them on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Neckline-Slimmer-Portable-Exerciser-Neck-Line-Tighten-Thin-Chin-Jaw-Massager-/170789523396?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27c3d94fc4 ,,but I don't have one but going to get one. For now, I use my own hands to push against under my chin and hold it 10 seconds,,I do this several times a day. My double chin is gone after losing 50 pounds and I am 47.

I tilt my head back and pull my bottom lip over my top lip until I feel the muscles in my throat tighten. I hold to the count of ten and repeat ten times. I do this twice a day. I read it somewhere and it "feels" like it works.

Wow, you look amazing. Great job. You do not look older, but more youthful and full of energy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
