1 Year On I Am Gaining Weight

Recommended Posts

i had the op in april last year... i lost 20 kilos..... but drinking colas my stomach has expanded to half normal size.....i also have fabricated ghrelin glands , so i feel cravings all the time.

in the last 4 months i won 10 kilos, just because my stomach expanded, i now can drink half a litre of diet pepsi or more........

worried i am i thought the operation would be it....... but i dont understand... i get a lot of cravings now..... nearly as much as before the operation.........only the size of the stomach (half) is stopping it......

i thought the operation would be the end of my overeating and cravings ..... it is not

Can you elaborate a little bit? You lost around 20 kilos and have gained 10 kilos back, is that right? What are fabricated grehlin glands? I am very confused about that.

Thank you for sharing your story by the way. The gastric sleeve is great but I know there are some who struggle more than others. That is what we are here for. No one is going to put you down. Keep your head up.

My question is: Can you stop the soda drinking now? Are you addicted to them again? I know how tempting a soda is. I was hooked on them before surgery and haven't had any in a couple of months. But you are a year out so I know it must be hard.

ghenlin glands regulate apetite, or food craving and are supossed to be cut out of the stomach operated .... for the first 4-5 months after the op i was never hungry...... now i feel like eating all the time......the soda is diet...always..... i lost 20 kilos in 4 months since then the stomach begun to get much bigger and i could eat more and more often......

There have been a lot of studies lately proving the negative effects of diet sodas and also linking them to cravings. I would suggest to stop drinking them and see what happens. Best of luck ! :)

Hi,ok so you say drinking colas your stomach have expanded and you have a lot of food cravings. You will have to stop the colas, sugarfree or normal. It is not good for your stomach and for acid either.

When we eat a lot of sugar or refined carbs like in crisps, bread, potato rice ect. It causes a lot of food cravings in us.So even though you might have eaten anything in little portions before your stomach expanded, you will have to take care not to trigger food cravings.

So, the food rules again.

Protein first.Always.Then the veggies, then the carbs IF you have space which you shouldnt really.

3 meals and 2 small Snacks per day.

64oz of Water ............AND YOU WILL lose the 10kg's fast again.

Te unfortunate thing is the sleeve have to motivate us to change our habits or it will not work.I am really saying this for my own benifit as I am learning that one will always be able to regain wieght again, even with Gastric bypass.DS is the only surgery that is difficult to outeat....but the Vitamin issues with that is just too much.

You can do this.Just start being mindful of the fact that your stomach is still smaller than what it was before so losing weight should technically be easier than before.

Good luck.

xxo

I was told soda expands the sleeve by my surgeon. He said it would be something I can no longer drink.

Yep. NOT worth the risk.

Your stomach expanded or stretched because you made the decision to drink pop (cola, soda). Like others have said it will expand your stomach, and it will indeed cause you to have cravings. This takes place in your brain, not your stomach!

You still have to make healthy, and wise choices with the Sleeve! Meaning picking the right food to eat, and drink. Working out, and becoming healthy! It's a tool!

The main problem I see here is the soda intake. Sweets induce hunger and carbonated drinks increases stomach volume.

Your best bet is to use to the substitution method. When you get a craving to drink soda grab something else to drink, that non carbonated, so slowly develop a psychological conscious connection. Doing this will eliminate your need to drink carbonated drink and start you back on the path to a health lifestyle.

Hope that helps

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
