Hoping Time Goes By Fast..month 2 Of 6 :(

Recommended Posts

I'm the type of person that only goes to the doctor if I'm extremely sick which I know is stupid but I'm just being honest.

To be approved for the sleeve by my insurance I have to get all these test done and wait 6 months and so far I'm almost done with everything and I'm starting to get the results back and I'm learning that I'm a lot worse off than I thought I was. I found out I have high blood pressure and rheumatoid arthritis and acid reflux and I'm two inches shorter then i always thought I was. 5'3 not 5'5! Haha I'm afraid of what else I'm going to find out. And I'm only in month 2 of 6 :(

I know the feeling! I just finished my 6 months and having surgery on 4/10. I found out I had all the stuff the doctor said I would when I was 21 and didn't listen now it's catching up to me at age 25. I don't look at it as a bad thing. Look at it as a good thing, you know what you have and learn how to fix it whether it be with medication or losing weight. This can also help with co-morbids too if your insurance requires you have at least one to have approval. The next 4 months will go by fast and before you know it you'll be on your way to approval and surgery. Good luck on your journey.

How exciting! Good luck on your surgery where are you getting it done? I'm in New York. I was tempted to take my tax return fly to mexico but I'm going to finish paying off my car.

Thank you, I live in San Antonio, TX having it done at foundations surgical center with Dr. Gonzalez. Soooo excited. It took me 3 years to finally get to this point and commit. I thought about going to Mexico too but I had to pay bills with my return :(. Glad I waited though.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
