I seriously doctor up my Protein drinks. It "masks" the flavor of the Protein enough that I find them enjoyable.

(BTW, when I had my lapband 6 years ago Isopure was the first brand I tasted and I couldn't stand it. Then I went to EAS CarbAdvantEdge and that was my staple for 5 - 6 years. This time around I"m still experimenting).

Tonight was PBJ protein drink:

2 scoops vanilla powder

1 tbl PB2 Peanut Butter

1 pump SF Peanut Butter Syrup

1 pump SF strawberry syrup

Made in plain, light soymilk.

I never, and I mean never, drink "straight up" Protein Drinks. The smell alone is too bad. Not a lot is going into my mouth nowadays so I really want to enjoy what does.

Yesterday was peanut butter cup protein day (chocolate powder, PB2 peanut butter, SF peanut butter syrup).

Tomorrow is feeling like it might be an orange julius protein day (vanilla powder, SF orange syrup, tsp SF vanilla pudding). I little farther out I will use reduced acid OJ instead of the syrup.

For RTD, I prefer the EAS CardAdvantEdge in strawberry, but it has to be VERY cold. I can't stand them once they warm up. I buy them at Target, they look like this:

I usually buy them at Marshall's/TJ Maxx type stores, or at World Market. Target/Walmart will carry a few but the selection is really limited.

Earlier tonight I placed an order at www.netrition.com for 17 bottles. I guess I really like my variety! Their prices are slightly higher per bottle than other places, but the shipping knocks it out of the park (bottles are about $3 higher each, but my shipping was less than $5 compared to $37).

I feel the same way. I spent a ton on Matrix 5.0 and Syntrax. So far, the only thing I can get down is Muscle Milk. I am 6 weeks out.

If you brought them from GNC they'll take them back!

My nutritionist gave me a sample of these bad boys and I loved them especially the orange but i've been too busy to get back to her about ordering some, so I have no idea how much they are or where to get them from...

Sunkist Protein 24g, super tiny and way better than any Isopure or Protein Shots, and especially those aweful shakes!

Protien shots are made from collegan which is not an absorbable Protein for us. Collegan is made from bioiled cow hide.

There is a huge list of Protein Drink recipes in the food forum. There is also a list of places where you can get samples. The Syntrex nectar Sample packet is a really good deal.

If you have a GNC, they will let you sample some things to find what you like.

Hi there! I am a newbie and only in my second week but I had a TERRIBLE time with any shakes that I had to mix with Water. The foam made me extremely nauseous so I tried some from Unjury that you mix with milk and I am not having any trouble at all with those. Unfortunately, you have to spend tons of money to find the right one but Unjury has a starter pack where you get a couple of packets of several flavors. Hopefully, this helps! Good luck to you!!!

Hi! I'm three weeks post op and until recently have also had a horrible time trying to get the protien shake in, it was torture! A friend told me to add warm Water to the protien powder and wow what a difference! It is so much easier to get down and it stays down! Just don't add boiling water, I use warm tap water. Hopefully this will work for you too. Good luck!

My body could not tolerate whey Protein so my nutritionist recommended soy protein and it was great. I use the GNC brand protein with light soy milk and it actually taste really good. Have you tried something other than a whey based protein?

THis thread has come right on time!!! I am 2 wks post op and I am struggling with the Protein shakes! I've done the BariCare chocolate and vvanilla from my doctor's office, AWFUL!!! I have hav the strawberry Chike, ok but I'm not a Strawberry shake/yogurt/ice cream girl. I am thinking of buying just unflavored powder and going with that. I've tasted the New Whey Protein Shots. Not too bad.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
