I've been trying my hardest to get these Protein shakes...but i think something in them is making me sick. i have tried about 3 now and they all make me sick. Am I the only one with this problem? I HATE the taste of them. but i usually suck it up and finish it. but as soon as I finish...about 10 min later i feel uncomfortable and I start gagging and eventually puke...

But I've noticed that the actually shake isn't coming up. It mucous (i have a bit of a cold) so a little stomach acid (NUT said that it normal)

Am I the only one with this problem? please help!

Are you pre- or post-surgery? Which shakes are you drinking? I went through a period after surgery where nothing tasted good except Jello and the shakes felt like torture. But by the 2nd week it got better, and now I barely notice them.

I have used only nectar and powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury brand's of whey Protein isolate. They have lots of flavors and varieties, as I was so sick with vanilla and chocolate (still have a hard time with them). Are you using milk as a base to mix with or are they premixed with milk? Sometimes lactose doesn't go down well after surgery, and dairy makes congestion worse with a cold/flu. Maybe try soy, rice, or almond milk as an alternative?

If it doesn't get better, I would call your doctor. Good luck!

Try the ones from Healthwise- they come in lots of flavors and you add your own Water, so you can thin them out. Kiwi strawberry is pretty damn good!

I'm 2 months post op. I've just started my 11th week. I use Isopure shakes and i mix them with Water, not milk or anything. its so frustrating to not be able to just drink it like a normal person

I know there are folks who like the Isopure, but I have never met them! I have tried a couple and couldn't finish them, either. Didn't like them at all. I settled on Premier brand from costco. Soooo much easier to drink.

Honestly....I hate isopure. it's gross. and the flavors are gross. but i choose them because of the amount of Protein you get! you can't beat 50grams of Protein. But i may have to try something else soon...

Ditto on the Premier shakes. I had a difficult time getting various shakes in during the first 3 weeks after surgery. These were the only ones I tolerated. I still have one most days for Breakfast or after exercise. They have 30 grams of Protein.< /p>

I hate the shakes too! And I've spent alot of money on them at GNC and now I can't even drink them, such a waste! The Isopure (which is also kinda pricey, for my poor nursing student budget) is OK but now that I can taste things so profoundly it kinda has a salty after taste that I can't stand. To make matters worse now that I'm almost 6 weeks in I can start eating more foods but chicken, fish and deli meats are now making me sick. I think I am just doomed to struggle with my Protein intake. I have seen that nectar stuff though and I think I might try it :)

I had a really hard time also (2 weeks out from surgery) and still can't get the ones down that I loved before surgery! But a friend suggested the New Whey Protein " shots" u can get at Wal-Mart. They come in grape, watermelon, and acai berry. 42 grams of protein in 3 ounces and cost about $2.50 per tube. They sure have saved me!!!

I bought a huge pack of those they are kinda like Isopure to me but stronger. But at half the price you can't beat em!

Those sound really good! i might try those! my nutritionist told me to try protein waters like what your talking about. she told me to those in between meals and it'll help getting my protein in easier!

Yeah I feel you! especially with the finacial part of it. Isopure cost me about $51 and I've bought two. and another brand of Protein Shakes . It's so hard trying to figure out which ones to get because you don't know how they taste or how your palette is going to react. it's a bit (A lot) annoying.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
