Hey fam!

I'm so sorry I've been incognito lately. I have been so busy with work and mid terms and making sure I get all my last minute issues taken care of before my surgery in July. I hope all of you are doing well.

Jafter- I hope everything is going good with you and you are still recovering nicely.

Meredith- congratulations babe!! I'm so happy for you. I know this must be such a relief for you to have it over and done with. Please keep us updated on everything.

I am getting so anxious. I have had a food funeral for the last couple of months. I'm sure I gained 10lbs and it's kind of stressing me but I have accepted it. My preop diet starts on June 26th.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeek

Hope everyone is doing great! @Jafter, we need some updates from you!! @futureskinnypants has been keeping me on track and excited both before and after the surgery!

It's been 12 days since my surgery, and I've lost already lost 22lbs since then, 37lbs with pre-op. I'm dying for the "applesauce consistency" diet this Wednesday! It hasn't been too terribly bad this past week. It helps a lot when you're not hungry and see the weight coming off. Protein Shakes have been my best friend, but it's a struggle to get in the other liquid. I've been walking a few times each day with the dog, so that keeps me distracted and out of the kitchen. So far, this is one of the best decisions of my life. Hopefully in a few weeks, my energy level will be out of the roof (it's GREAT right now), but it feels wonderful to get some weight off. I'm so excited for everyone still waiting for this. It's wonderful!

Glad your doing so well :) Thanks for letting me tag along for your experience! I got a lot of insight and i plan on getting those sea bands *****for everyone that doesnt know-meredith said for the nausea, CVS carries sea band bracelets that hit pressure points on the wrist and reduce nausea...they even work for sea sickness and chemo...My friends little sister has cancer and is going through chemo so i let her mom know and she got them. ******

Hows everyone else doing!?

Well if I can do it for 8000 dollars total self pay. I and a relative of mine will be calling monday morning to set it up. We have been planning on either Mexico or saving for longer but this would be an answered prayer!! :)

Well, I will know by Monday and if not SC, the next most affordable place was in Louisana for 13600, and Mexico is 5000-9000 depending on who and where. It's not if, it's when and where for me. Thanks for your reply.

Someone called not too long ago and said the price they gave her was 18,500. The 8000 was kind of a promotional type of deal to get more surgerys for dr. w so him or the medical center could become a center of excellence. I think its in a previous post....but like Lloyd said....it's worth a shot!!!!! Please let us know what you find out! Good luck, they're wonderful!

Holy pickles, this is real!!!

So, Upon attempting to get out of debt, I picked up another debt. I decided I wanted to be sleeved and got a 7,000 loan for Dr. washington. Right now, I'm doing very well financially. However, I'm working my booty off! (not literally, yet.)

So I started a "fund". Thats what I call it: "THE FUND."

The fund included:

1200 for septembers bills. (my surgery is in august, so those will already be paid. But taking off 2-3 weeks from work, I wanted to make sure there were no worries the following month.)

1000 for the surgery balance. (since i got a 7000 loan, and owed 1000 more)

400 Fun money (Will be shopping and getting pedi's ..ill be in myrtle beach for 2 weeks, i need SOMETHING to do!)

200 for gas.

This financial goal I set a couple months back seemed SO FAR AWAY! but, i focused...worked my ass off and completed it!!!(UPON PAYING MY OTHER BILLS TOO!)

I put the last 500 in today and almost cried! This is real. This is happening. I'm really doing this for me and I have the financial means to do so. It's no longer so far fetched! Dr. Washington, Here I come!!!! :P

I'm doing the same thing skinny I'm on salary so the time off is just vac time. I paid my house off 3 weeks ago and paid off a $1000 from a trip to California a couple months ago and paid the $1300 off for what was left in my wife's car and have $4500 in the sleeve fund but other than saving for the sleeve I have zero debt. My sleeve is in sept I think I can put back the other $3500 plus the $1000 for the hotel stay buy then if I don't it will be close. It's a great feeling isn't it. But sucks not splurging for some things I normally would have. Going to buy me a Harley as a present to myself after I meet my goal. :)

yes it feels amazing! it would feel more amazing if i was 100% debt free first but i've gotten my shakes for the pre op diet, some post op stuff, some clothes to wear while im down there, paid off the 1200 for the condo, among everything i mentioned. This is amazing to me! and, as im losing weight...i'll have more energy to work. Right now, im completely drained from being this over weight and working 81 hours a week. I hope it gets easier so i can make that $! I figured since i have a good paying job now (that i really can't count on-it could be gone tomorrow)...i would get this done now. I may never have this opportunity. If i can keep that job for another year ill be golden :) ....i am going to start a "goal" fund though :) SHOPPPINGGGG SPREEEEE!!!

Good luck Sparky you are going to do great, stick to that liquid diet get some Powerade or gatorade for after the surgery. If you can start exercising now that will help in the recovery. If you are local myrlte beach area, dr washington's office has a support group meeting once a month. We are a very supportive group. At the last meeting we toured the wellness facility (work out facility run by the hospital). They gave us all a one month free membership with a one hour personell trainer. I have gone a few times each week.

Once the nurses give you the ok to walk I would recommend it if you are able. It helps you from getting blood clots in your legs. the worst part initially is getting comfortable in bed and not being able to drink until they do your leak test. Otherwise it was a piece of cake.

I had my surgery on April 18th. I had to do a 3 week liquid diet. I started at 361 pre liquid lost 20lbs on that and now I am down to 285 for a total of 75lbs so far. At least 85 more lbs to go for my goal of 200.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
