Greek Yogurt - You're Fav?

Recommended Posts

I am 2 weeks post-op today (yayyy), and I tried some Greek yogurt for the first time today - OIKOS Organic Greek yogurt (vanilla). I have to say that it's about the worst tasting yogurt I've ever had! I know that it's a healthier option for me (15g of Protein in one serving), so I'm wondering which one is your favorite? Or if you have any suggestions on how I can improve the flavor.

I really like Oikos rasberry flavored yogurt. It is yummy. It almost reminds me of a fruit-flavored spread that you can buy for toast.

I don't like the plain greek yogurt either. It works OK for a replacement in cooking or for sour cream though.

Fage Greek yogurt is my fav but all the Greek yogurt's taste like sour cream to me. I only eat it as a sour cream. I know a lot of people add fresh fruit and sugar substitutes to make it sweet like a normal yogurt but I still don't like the sour undertone.

Oikos Key Lime is pretty good, but I have tried them ALL and the only one I can tolerate on a regular basis is Chobani. My favorite flavors are Apple Cinnamon, Peach and Black Cherry. I find all the others to taste horrible!!

MY absolute fav is the greek gods brand and the Honey or Honey vanilla. It is high in fat but I have found I have been not stalling as much as I increase my cals a little this is my only fat splurge.

I absolutely love the Chobani greek yogurt: Black cherry, strawberry, and peach are all great flavors! Hope my taste buds don't change once I crossover to the losers bench!

I'm a fan of the Yoplait high-protein coconut flavor. I like to dunk my BelVita Breakfast Cookies in there--tastes like cheesecake and is healthy! I usually eat 1/2 a container of the yogurt and 2 of the 4 Cookies as a "mini-meal," and it's yummy!

Also you can doctor your own yogurt--either sweet or savory. For sweet, get some of those syrups from Monin or Torani (both have lots of sugar-free flavors if you prefer sugar-free--you can order on Amazon or get them at some groceries, World Market, or coffee shops) and/or Jello or pudding packets--just use a spoonful of the powder, stir in, and yum! You can use drink mix powder for this, too--or instant coffee.< /p>

For savory, stir in a couple of spoons of dip mix (ranch or onion), some instant Soup powder, salsa with or without extra herbs (cilantro, chives, chopped roasted garlic), or sriracha--makes a delicious dip for veggies (cucumber slices make good chips!), meat/chicken bites, crackers, whatever. Use it like sour cream. One of my favs is worchestershire sauce (just a couple drops!), some dehydrated onion flakes, a little salt, and a clove of smashed-up roasted garlic--voila! onion dip that reminds me of my childhood favorite but oh so much better!!

My very favorite is the Fage non-fat plain! If I want sweet I add some fruit to it; if I want savory, I will chop up some Tomato and cucumber in it, align with this Garlic pepper mixture I get from Mountain Rose Herbs.

For plain yogurt to mix and dressing or dips I use Fage. For eating I use Chobani with the fruit in it.

I get the nonfat and lowfat kind. The calorie difference is minimal.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
