Mita710 8 Posted April 5, 2012 What steps u had to take before you got a date? I'm new to this' date=' just curious.[/quote'] Well before you get a date you have to have a upper endoscopy done, must get a psych evaluation, get a letter of necessity from your primary physician, and you must see a nutritionist. It depends on the insurance you have...most insurances require you to see a nutritionist for 6 months before surgery...I have blue cross blue shield so thankfully the 6 months were not required...after you complete all that you get a surgery date...then you go for your pre testing where they take blood work, urine test, ekg, and chest x ray. Then last but not least you back to your primary physician for your medical clearance....lol...I know it seems like a long process but its going to be so worth it at the end...I'm going to be starting my pre op liquid diet sat. and my surgery is on Apri11th. If you have any questions let me know...we are all here to help and support each other :0) 1 phatdivabbw reacted to this
Shaniceh01 28 Posted April 5, 2012 Thank you. I have Medicaid and most people say that they don't pay for the sleeve surgery but I spoke to a representative and she said the guidelines just got revised and most likely they would if I meet the requirments, which are a BMI 40 or higher, 18 or older, and three failed attempts to loose weight but I'm just unsure of the six month waiting period. I hope I won't have to wait that long. I wish everyone the best and thanks for your input
change 22 Posted April 5, 2012 Congrats on getting your date!! I am May 15th!!! So excited for all of us!!!
peacelovenkarma 12 Posted April 6, 2012 I started by attending a WLS seminar at my hospital. From there I had scheduled an appt and I met with Dietician, Physician Assistant and a Mental Health Counselor. I have to follow a diet for 3 months and lose 10% of my weight as a reqiuirement for surgery. I was then scheduled for bloodwork, EKG,echocardiogram, chest X-RAY, Upper GI, and an abdominal ultrasound. There was an issue with my Upper GI so I needed to go for a Manometry test. I have hadto meet with the dietician monthly for a weigh in and turn in my food logs. Also a requirement was to attend 2 support group meetings at my hospital. It sounds like alot, but most of these things were scheduled in the same day. Now that I have my date, I have an appt coming up for a teaching class with my Dietican and the Physician Assistant, I assume to teach me what I need to do afer surgery. Then I also have pre-surgical testing and meeting with the Anesthesiologist 3 weeks before surgery.
change 22 Posted April 6, 2012 Hi Amanda! Just saw that you and I have the same date!! Would love to know your stats if you don't mind sharing so we can be sleeve buddies and follow up with each others progress!! I am 26 years old 5'0 and right now I am at 274 (hoping to get down to 260 by my surgery date!) I am so excited! 38 days left!!
peacelovenkarma 12 Posted April 6, 2012 Hey! My date is actually the 16th. For some reason when I typed it in on my phone it changed the date on me! My first appt was on 1/16 (my birthday) and I weighed 263 I am 5'5 and 31 years old. Today I am 249 lbs. and my date is May 16th!
change 22 Posted April 6, 2012 Awesome! Our dates are close enough lol You've done a great job on starting to lose before surgey! I am officially on a mission to lose at least 15 pounds before my surgery date!!
peacelovenkarma 12 Posted April 6, 2012 Thanks! I have gone up and down a little, but hey thats why I am having surgery! I want to lose more too before the big day too. Do you have to follow any type of diet? I am basically having 3 meals a day one meal is a Protein Shake and the others are 4 oz Protein, 2 cups of veggies and 2 cups of fruit. No carbs. If I need a snack between meals it must be a protein. and Water water water!!
change 22 Posted April 6, 2012 My pre-op diet is similar to yours except I have to have 3 Protein Shakes and then for dinner I can have 4 oz of Protein, 2 cups of veggies and 2 cups of fruit. I have to do mine for 2 weeks prior to surgery. And they said the same thing about Water to me lol Lots of water! Yuck lol
peacelovenkarma 12 Posted April 6, 2012 Really? Is that what you have done since the beginning or did your diet just start? They had me start the diet on 1/16. I dont have any other special diet before surgery. Just the day before I will probably only be able to have Clear Liquids. I'm not going to lie, I have cheated a little bit. But game on girl, we can do this!
100%Sleeved 148 Posted April 6, 2012 Congrats on your date!
change 22 Posted April 6, 2012 Believe me I have so cheated too lol I've been pretty much following that for about a week and I'm planning to continue until my surgery date. I figure I might as well try to lose as much as I can before then. (of course I may have a "last supper" here and there before my official 2 weeks prior to surgery lol) We can so do this!!
